Hi All,

TBC is home & has taken Matilda for some nice long drives but she has decided that spitting oil out of the filler tube is a great idea [wink11]

However, I don't think it is.

I hope it's just a breather issue.

She came to us with a chrome air filter (that didn't seal) that the pipe on the rocker breather went to.

I've since put an old air cleaner housing on, which has no where to connect this hose to.

Should/Can I put a 'T' piece in where I have the vacuum for the brake booster coming from?

The reading that I've done so far indicates that maybe there should be a valve in the filler tube, but I don't have.

The engine number incase it makes a difference is either S or 8 23600261A

Here's some pics.

Thanks in advance

You have a mixture of oil filler breather designed for open crancase ventilation and the rocker cover one designed for positive crankcase ventilation. The type of air cleaner on the filler is designed to be oil wetted, and will usually be a bit oily. The rocker cover one should have the tube into the elbow leading to the aircleaner. But the two do not go together.

Thanks, So i'm better off getting one of the older type rocker breathers rather than plumbing in a ''T'?

I believe my oil spitting problems are fixed.

Just bought a breather from an autoparts store & whacked it in.

Thanks

Can you close the bonnet?

Can you close the bonnet?

mmm yeah????

I'm assuming you're concerned about the Holden type aircleaner.

It clears by miles with the Zenith carb but does hit with a Stromberg.

No, actually I meant the breather - which is higher than the original - I'm not too sure how much clearance there is. I knew the Holden aircleaner was OK on the Zenith (or Solex).

Given that you have the Zenith and the pipe from the rocker cover breather to the carby, maybe you oil filler cap should be a sealed one like the pic below.
The pic is of a 1971 2A engine.

Cheers, Mick.

My standard SIII has a breather cap on both the oil filler and the rocker cover. No tube to the air filter. So I reckon he has got it right now.

Unfortunately my oil splutterings are not fixed:(

All cylinders tested 120psi dry & 140psi Wet. Apparently 140-145psi is normal.

All of the spark plugs look fine.

Normally there is no smoke at startup but there has been once or twice in the past.

Doesn't appear to blow smoke while driving although it did when I revved the engine after idling for a while then cleared up.

It's been suggested that maybe I have the wrong dipstick & it's overfull.

I think I'm up for pulling the heads & checking for worn rings, bore etc.

Any other suggestions?

Let me know if you can't see the pictures.
