LT230 transfer case help

So just installed a reconditioned transfer case and can't shift into low range?? Any idea what could be the cause??
Was a little hard when out of the car and on the bench but thought this was because I didn't have any leverage on the selector??
Could shift with a shifting spanner on the lever.

Any advice appreciated, it's starting to get me down!! After the stuff up with breaking the extension housing!

If you look on the side of the transfer case right next to the chassis rail you will see a small AFAIR allen key.
This has the detent ball and a spring underneath.
You should back it out a few turns and reloctite it. Do it by the feel of the change but not too loose.
Good luck with it as I had to make up a tool to do the job in situ and it was a PITA.
You really need to take out the console floor to do it IMHO.

Tried the detent screw, loosened all the way out reloctite and adjust till I could move the lever.
Could only get it to shift while auto was in neutral, and stopped even after backed most of the way out!!
Booked in for a warranty claim so hopefully they'll sort it??

It is only supposed to change with auto in neutral.

yeah, definitely only in neutral, and sometimes you may need to roll the vehicle a little(back or forward) to help the gears mesh(or something like that).

So while in neutral and your changing from high to low or back, it may bind trying to get it into one or the other transfer gear, just a small amount of movement of the car can help to get past that bind spot.

My old transfer case would shift on the fly??
But yes I'm able to get the new one to shift either way if I'm rolling and shift auto into neutral. Pretty smooth now after a few hundred km's on the reconditioned transfer case!!
So what is "normal" for shifting hi to low etc
Rolling and auto in neutral then shift?
Or just rolling and shift in gear?

A you can shift just moving or stopped in neutral but you may get a clunk moving. The benefit of moving is that the non synchro gears drop straight in.
