Hello all,

I am new to this sight and have 2 series 1 to restore. 1 is an 86" 1955 and the other is a 88" 1957. The 57 has basically a non existent chassis thanks to rust, so I am going to make 1 out of the 2 vehicles. I am just taking stock of all I have prior to dismantling, though I have come across the first of Im sure many questions. Can anyone tell me what engine is in the 1955, pic attached. Thank Dean

Does that mean it should or shouldn't be in this model/year etc.

Thanks

It is a later model engine probably later than 1961 going by the thermostat housing.

Both vehicles you have would have had a 2ltr motor originally

Both vehicles would have had a 2 litre spread bore motor.

Also note that the firewall/bulkhead is different for the two models. From the seatbox back they would be relatively the same.

It certainly has pendant pedals, which strongly suggests a Series 2/2a/3 firewall. Perhaps some overall pictures might clarify whether it really is a Series 1 at all!

The Chassis number is 57660918 and here are a couple more pics, if anyone has some ideas what it is.

You are right ,the chassis number confirms that it is a 86" 55 S1. .W.

It's definitely a Series 1 86" firewall.

Yes, definitely Series 1, but it has been extensively modified, in some respects updated.

You will haveto decide whether to restore it in its "updated" form, or revert to original. Or something in between.

The 57 engine/gearbox should be very close to the 55 Car , basicly just bolt it in. There's a few strange parts on the 1955 models but visually the same

Post up a pic of the 1957 engine bay if you're not shure it's a 2L spreadbore.

Bypass oil filter on siamese bore (early 2 litre) and full flow filter on spread bore. The latter should be from '55 on.
