Hello everyone,

Hoping to get suggestions/information from people with experience working with aluminium ute canopies.

I would like to have a 'box' extend forward from my canopy over the cabin, the canopy height would also need to be increased to achieve this. The goal is to have the ability to store my surfboards measuring 9'6" securely in the 'roof' of the canopy above my other gear.

Is it please possible/legal to have such an extension? Can it rest on the existing roof to reduce space wastage? or is a gap required like those hire campers you see about?

Are there any links to existing canopies like this or would it have to be a custom job?

Thanks!
Pat.

Why not just put another box on top of your canopy to suit the surf boards?
The back of it could open and just slide the boards in then lock it like a tool box, you could even carpet the floor of it while it is being made to protect them.
As far as extending forward over the roof goes, I see no problem as most slide on campers do this.
I would not rest it on the roof but use a roof bar and secure it to that.
I think this would be far cheaper than raising the roof of your existing canopy and it can be removed when you are not using it to help with economy.

You could just mount bars and a roof box on to the canopy and put your boars in there?

save a lot of hassle,

Thanks guys,

An extra box on top is the simpler option, in my mind I was adding head room when the boards are removed as I camp in the box, but the hastle is more than it's worth. Thanks for your input saved me slot of unessary work.

Cheers.

Anything is possible depends if your willing to spend the coin on it A cut and shut job so to speak isnt going to be the best solution. Depending on how your current canopy is getting an additional section made then cutting roof off your original on and welding new addition on seems like the easiest way to go about it

Be aware that all Utes have the "issue" that the cab moves independent of the tray/canopy/ute body
Extending over the ute cab is no problem but keep the attachment solely onto the canopy
