Decided to watch the Stallone movie "Cobra" on & Mate this evening, then decided after about half an hour that I couldn't put up with the ads,...10 mins movie, 4min 40 secs ads, 10.5 mins movie, 4.5 mins ads, 10 mins movie etc,....couldn't put up with it, so I've taped it.

Not just movies. Was watching TV with the kids, they were watching a kids channel and timed 20 minutes of straight adds between the shows which were themselves 15 minutes long.

We decided to try that "catch up" thingy or whatever it's called, bloody hell it's annoying, they suck you in for the first 20 or minutes then the adds get longer and the show get less in time, to the point where the last lot of adds were 1.30 minutes before the end of the program:soapbox:

Hear we were thinking "great no more recording" what a joke:firedevil:

Very rarely watch anything "live" on TV any more these days, except for the ABC. [wink11] Even SBS is becoming almost as bad as the crappy commercial channels as far as advertising time / content is concerned.:censored:

We can record up to five shows simultaneously on different channels while watching either a sixth channel or playing back a previously recorded show at the same time - though I have never found any reason to fully use this capability and record any more than two or three at the same time.

It's not just the number / frequency / duration of the ads that ****es me off - it is the fact that many of them are just stupid and seem to be designed to gain the attention of the complete ****wits in our society. [bigwhistle]

Although most consider everything that is NOT the actual show is an ad, I am led to believe that "self promotion" does not count in the official tally for the amount of ads that can be shown in any timeframe. This includes promos for up and coming shows (eg. MKR, news, etc.)

And isn't the volume loud on the adds compared to the movies, I am heard at hearing and have the movie set at a certain volume, but whne the ads come on I have to reach for the remote to turn the volume down again.[bawl]

I rarely watch commercial TV live now because of the ads, and yes they are louder than the programs. Instead I record it and then skip through the ads. It's no wonder the percentage of the population watching live TV is continuing to fall as people switch to the internet or other sources.

............................. people switch to the internet or other sources.

We never watch a movie on TV anymore, we stream through Kodi, free (easily covered by our internet data allowance which we have anyway) and totally ad free, and watch what you like whenever you like. Also use it for our favorite TV series for the same reason.
We've also been able to find some great new shows that aren't on Aussie TV.

If we do watch any 'normal' TV we usually record the show on a PVR and fast forward through the ads.

Cheers, Murray

I'm over the adverts.. Have been for a while! Ebay.. Adverts! Gumtree... Adverts that cover the page! YouTube.. Adverts that you now have to watch before you can watch what you want! They say that it's subliminal advertising.... Well, the last thing I'd buy is something off the TV!!! Never use Ebay now, occasionally use Gumtree, but not often, and rarely use YouTube all due to the adverts. Hate them, and often send snotty emails to the companies who 'over do' it on TV! :)

Yeah but its only $10 a month. The other option for SBS is SBS on demand. You get a couple of 30second ads but that's it.

Don't watch much TV anymore because of the amount of ads they play. Watching "Sunrise" yesterday and in one ad break I counted 12 ads and 1 self promo in one break. Most annoying.:bat: Anyrate who wants to watch endless reruns of cooking shows, building shows, married at first sight...........UGH!!!!!!

Commercial radio is just as bad. Particularly the ads for a certain tile retailer. Thankfully I have a good selection of music on the iPods , and when I do put the radio on , it is set to a local community station. Promos are only relevant to those listening. Too bad community tv has bitten the dust.

Don't mind the Three Zeds occasionally, mate, and the J's intermittently although they seem to have been taken over by the current trending "Homosexual Renaissance."Steve

I try to "surf" the channels, but somehow they can synchronise the adds so they are all on at the same time.
Just watch the news now then read a book.

Select the time slots, thurs am 6 til ten is good and Friday afternoon is always worth a listen to hear about upcoming show and releases. Good thing about being a zed subscriber is that I can also participate in the station.
