panoramic sunroof on a D4 - heat reduction

hi Guys

on my D4V8 I have the pano sunroof option (i.e. one big slab of glass over the second and third row seats)

it heats up like a bastard in the warmer WA climate so I'm keen to do something (in addition to racks) that will minimise the heat/sun getting into the cabin.

any ideas?

has anyone put that perforated vinyl film over their pano roof's to cut the light & heat making its way into the cabin?

tint on the inside is a no-go apparently... asked tint-a-car whether they could do this and apparently because the glass is laminated (or something) they can't

i'd prefer to put something in-between the glass and the sun to begin with - some sort of cover / UV-resistant film

I have placed Chrome external vinyl over the rear skylights of my D2 , and it has lasted well for over 2 years now.
By doing that and painting my roof silver it has dropped inside temp by about 20C in hot sun.

Solar Panels mounted/sealed on the inside? Keep the battery charged up, and reduce heat entering at the same time! :)

I have a Prospeed rack with the heavy duty roof panels on it. They cover all of the glass except about 1/4 of the front sunroof. Significant reduction of temp also.
Yes Prospeed rack is a bit more expensive than local options but fit and finish is outstanding and with the rack fitted is only 46mm higher than standard vehicle.

ok after talking to a vehicle signage and tinting company I have decided what to do

turns out the perforated vinyl film is crap (even best 3m / Avery quality) and won't last on a horizontal surface for more than a year. Its intended for vertical usage - signage.

What was recommended, and I will proceed with this option is high-grade 3M or Avery semi-gloss vehicle wrap. I'll try and match the same colour as the car (ipanema sand) so it looks like a solid roof. that way all light and heat will be blocked from hitting the glass.

that plus a Rhino Rack flat rack & backbone should do the trick nicely

Tinting the Sunroof will result in it exploding!

The OPs comment re-perforated vinyl or Wrap is the method to use... As noted the Perforated gear does age - although IF it is laminated with UV film when made it will last significantly longer.
