G'day,
I was just doen at my local Repco (no plug intended) and I saw a 50 litre f/f that retailed at $999.
It was badged "Downunder" and did not look too bad.
Has anyone seen these and know where they come from?
Cheers
Rob

Don't know but I'd suspect China. For a similar amount you can buy a Waeco 50. I have one and it's fantastic AND the backup service is great.

I've tried a search on AULRO & I can't see anything other than this thread.
Does anyone have any experience of these ?

mmmmm 5 year warranty not bad
they also run a danfross compressor which most of the top brand portable fridges run anyway
id look at the construction of it i know waecos are plastic there is plenty of horror story,s of waecos warping breaking hinge,s and so on
i have a engle and they have a realy good following of fans and a exellent reputation
it realy boils down to the $ you want to spend and what you want from it and how long you intend to keep it or how you use it
i know my engle is in for the long run and at 6 years old im still very happy with it:D

For less than that you could go a 55L dual fridge/freezer from EvaKool (though it's listed cheaper in that link above)

still got my 3 way chescold fridge freezer which l bought in 1984, about 10 years had a complete service done to replace frayed/corroded damaged wiring caused by the heat exchange flu
any reputable unit should last
points to consider
is how you going to power it when away from 240 volt access
do you need to modify vehicle with 2nd battery to power it
do you carry portable energy battery packs to power it while in camp and your vehicle is out playing
are you going to spoil the wildnerness with the noise of a portable generator
how long you going to be away, my chescold on freezer setting lasts about 9 days on 9kg gas bottle
how good is insulation, you can if very good turn unit off for few hours at time to extend power resource
how many people do you need to refridgerate food for
are you going to need chill drinks or make ice from unit, with chescold on freezer put in plastic coke bottles with water to freeze to make next day ice blocks for esky and cold drinking water.
do you really need it compared to good quality esky for the time your actually storing food
how many dollars you prepared to spend

I bought the 50L version last year when Repco had them on special for the same price. It appeared to me to be a rebadged Reefer. The compressor is 240v running from an inbuilt inverter.
It gets used for a few hours every week, although usually not very full. I recently setup a temp sensor and just a little into the freezer temp setting (pointer at top) it maintains 0 deg with only a degree or so variation either side when its 30-35 outside but with the A/C on.
Correction: Bought April this year for $799.
I suspect the Reefer RT50 & RT70 & Downunder 50L & 70L just come from the same factory, ordered with the appropriate badges.
