Tracktor tyres

Hi all,
I on the lookout for two tractor tyres for a primary school in sydney so that they can build a sant pit for the year one kids. I'm in west ryde, sydney.

At the risk of being a spoilsport have you checked that the location is happy with the liability of using industrial materials for kiddywinks to play on? ( I know it sounds stupid........)
I would suggest ringing a few tyre dealerships in rural areas, maybe out Hawkesbury way or Camden.

When the cost of disposing of unserviceable tyres at tip /recycle centre or whatever is considered, eg order of $100 for large rear tractor tyre in some country areas, likely some people or businesses wanting to get rid of them will consider subsidising cost of transport to a destination where they are wanted. Have heard of this being done with truckloads of car tyres from metropolitan dealers to farmers who want them to weight down heavy plastic sheet on silage stacks. Silage is basically made from grass or similar plant material. Instead of being dried enough, as with haymaking so it should not go mouldy or heat up, it is chopped fine, compacted and sealed to exclude air. When made properly, anaerobic fermentation results in production of lactic acid which will preserve it indefinitely provided good sealing is maintained. Tyres on plastic sheet is largely a better option nowadays to achieve this than covering silage with dirt.

Probably best sandpit builders inspect tyres before agreeing to take them as some would be better than others for their purposes. Including may want to reject any with fine high tensile wire exposed from damaged steel belt or bead. A hazard which could cause injury in a kids sandpit.
