Fidgit spinners

If you have pre teen or a teens in your household you probably know what these are.
For those who do not know they are basically a toy that includes any where from one or more skateboard bearings (most common are using 4) and you hold them and spin them either in your hand or on a table. They think it helps kids with ADHD etc.
They range from price from a few dollars to a few hundred depending on the ebac rating of the bearings.
My son wanted to make one so him and I made one - all of his own design. Well he had it at school and was playing with it at lunch time, but what he told me amused me that a teacher was very fascinated with his fidigit spinner because he had made it and the teacher could not believe that he had made it where all the other kids have store bought ones.

My feel good moment was when my sister inlaw who is a kinder teacher saw a couple of the ones I made and thought that one of her students would benefit from one. So I quickly made one up for her. Well the student absolutely loved it. I hope it helps him!

Top Marks to you and your little bloke. Believe it or not I bought one for my little bloke just 30 seconds before reading your post and I have no idea what form it takes at all. Never seen or heard of it but he just had to have one as it's the best thing since sliced bread.

My son wants to make a couple more. He raided the bearings out of an old skate board of his to use.
I have a few different designs in my head to try and make.

My son has one and has been watching youtube on spray painting them. So last weekend off to bunnings for 3 cans of paint.. I let him spary it... (trainwreck) however he had fun and learned a little re how to spray. Not sure it sunk in though. He loves it. Having tea tonight which is rare that we all eat... wait missing one child... see rare to all eat at the same time. anyhow back on track i noticed he had his spinner on the table, proud as punch of his work.

As for the spinners, should go into production mr Crash. Your son could become the spinner baron of his school.
Another interesting 'trend' which would be a good lathe project is the spinning top. Like the spinners, there are some very fancy spinning tops that are collected by gadget-geeks which can sell for 100's. Think of them like the modern version of worry beads.

I think he has thought about custom making some.
I love tops, never thought of making my own - but do not have a lathe. Would be a fun project.

I view them as a Fad toy, but yes someone is making some coin from them.
I think many are made on 3D printers - an ideal project.
You can make them out of any thing - we have been using scrap pieces of MDF and ply and bearings are cheap.

Yes. They were called toys...

Fidget cubes, pens etc are as the name suggests and expectations are they are used during other tasks for those who "fidget"....

Don't see anywhere in there that states "not focusing on the task at hand and fiddling with toys is perfectly acceptable."

The whole concept is of a pandering society that gets **** all done but cares about how everyone feels whilst doing nothing substantial to actually address any issues.
All the while neglecting the simple basics of courtesy, paying attention and focusing on tasks (especially relating to employment).

So put simply, no, work is a time to get things done...

Lachy already has Worry, Beads, YoYo, etc, etc. They all sit around gathering dust, as will the Fidget Spinner.

Lucy couldn't give a Pellican's after dinner mint for any of it.
