Warranty period ran out... Just like my mobiles do, once the warranty is out, it breaks so you have to buy a replacement...

I would say someones bum will be kicked over this, so much for service, more like failed service...

I wonder what was done wrong with the Azimuth drives? There electrical and I presume the motors have oil bath bearings, so who stuffed up????

The diesels on the NZ ANZAC frigates had common problems with bore glazing due to the engines being idled for too long, (usually during exercises), so it became the norm to run the gas turbine instead, that was until they used up the allocated hours on the turbine too quickly. Eventually they just kept steaming at normal speed while doing exercises/training.

I read the tabloid and thought bull+++ I cannot help wondering how stupidly and contemptuously some tabloid journalists treat their Audience. I use the term journalists very generously in this and some other cases. Rear Admiral Noonan and our Navy deserve and apology. The journalist might be best in a sitcom or comedy show.

We can not escape the fact our two largest ships are not operational. We must accept the fact that some one may have made a mistake. But to say some one put the wrong oil in the engines, shows a complete ignorance of the engineering principles of the POD system. However, there has been a gag put on the Navy, which suggests the fault lays high up the food chain.
