So I just discovered my vehicle has a plough and that there are some alternatives to the standard trailer hitch. I am aware of 2 in Oz being the mitch hitch and the ritter one. Do these just bolt up to the original towbar?
Which seems better? No I dont tow 3.5 tons but a) I have already bottomed it out twice and b) it doesnt look like a lot of fun removing the spare with it in place
I did do a search but came up with little
Many thanks
Nick

Lots of discussion on this topic. Type in "hitch" in the search; lots come up.

I have a Mitch Hitch. The installation uses a combination of your recovery point and where the existing hitch is attached. Install instructions are on their website.

Its a huge improvement over the existing tow hitch setup.

I use the D4 hitch (not the D3 plough) and it works great with my camper trailer. Perfectly level. If I'm hitting my D4 hitch on the ground then I'm probably also risking my spare under the car so I am happy with that.

I Like the mitch hitch but boy thats a fair bit of money.. probably priced to recover their adr costs.. Then again I havent asked what a new d4 hitch would cost either.
Thanks for the heads up

When my Mitch Hitch arrives (hopefully in the next week or two) I'd be happy to sell the D4 hitch at a reasonable price as I'll never need it again. You can even have the stowage holder for it and the nifty bag! I don't find the D4 hitch to be an issue, but I need the Mitch Hitch for the army engineering trailer to sit level. PM me if interested.

Thanks.. its the same old scenario.. everybody wants quality, few will pay for it. If it wasnt for the couple of grand i have recently spent i'd buy Aussie no questions
Still i am a small business too so it resonated with me
Ill just have to save up and hope i dont get a flat in the mean time

Buy the Mitch hitch, you can always remove it and sell it when it comes time to change your Disco.
im sure there will be plenty on Aulro wanting a second hand Mitch hitch.

I bought an adjustable hitch from Mister Hitches and it does the job well. Tried it at various settings and it's now right apart from a bit hanging down which I'll cut off which means it'll be no lower than the original hitch.
No way was I paying over 700 bucks for something probably knocked up in Asia like much stuff for 4 wheel drives these days.

PS. And it only cost 96 bucks.....

I just wish things were easier here without all the bulltripe rules and regulations and mental costs of doing business.
Wouldnt be anywhere else though

How many times now in Mitch Hitch threads have you made false claims and had them proven wrong?
It's fine if you don't see the value in something, other people do. But stop making unsubstantiated statements with no basis in reality.

For me, I wouldn't pay $700 for the Mitch given how little i tow. But i got one second hand at pretty much change over with my D4 towbar. I reckon its a great option and if i towed a lot, i could definitely see the value in paying more.

And by the way, they are designed and made in Australia. :bat:

Mitch Hitch for me. Aussie engineered, made and certified.

The interesting thing is that I need a hitch thats a little bit higher than the standard d3 hitch (aside from the obvious design fopars). I have a racing kart trailer that has a drop axle so that it is lower than standard so by my guestimations,, after having seen d3 and d4 hitches side by side, I feel the d4 hitch will be perfect.
If it wasnt I'd make do till I could afford the Mitch Hitch. I am in no doubt that a lot of stuff out of a certian country is shyte and I would never risk anyones safety by using these knock offs. They are masters at chrome plating plasticine unless adequate qc protocols are in place.
So buy Aussie cause we still make some of the best stuff out there.

Well there yer go! Something made here in Oz for a change and I'm glad to hear it. And I did say "probably" made in Asia, I'm pretty sure I didn't and never have said they were definitely made there as I didn't know.
If you don't like that I don't give a ****.

Here is the Mitch hitch coupling level at the lowest possible setting with normal suspension height. Turn the tongue 180 and you get another 60mm.

Of all the extra bits and bobs I've added to the D3 the Mitch Hitch will probably be the only thing I unbolt and put on a D4 when I upgrade.
