about to fit new wheel arches and ordered some new plastic rivets - they all have the protruding plastic centre removed whilst some others i had in stock are like one on right in pic- what's the difference?

By the sounds of it, it's the same product, but one is simply missing the centre part.

I've had luck with 'push rivets' before. The OE ones are good, but you often lose the inner plug, whereas some of the others out there have this part retained.

A timely thread as I have my right side wheel arch removed so I could fit Nuggets air cleaner kit.
Im just about to go out to button everything back up, and have to source a few of these clips due to the originals getting trashed.
I hope Super Cheap or Autobarn in Cairns will sell them.

BTW- is there any tricks/tips to refitting these plastic rivets?

Install rivet with pin completely removed.
Tap it in when the rivet is in position.

That's what i assumed but new rivets i purchased (as in pic) don't have pin protruding like other one in pic?

A few options:
1) Let the seller know you got a pack of half rivets
2) Buy an alternative product to do the same job (push rivets)
3) Use the rivet you have with a suitable sized screw (ideally stainless) to make a 'franken-rivet'. All it needs to do is expand out the wings of the rivet once installed.

Read here somewhere when I fitted my nugget kit that if you lose centre rod of plastic rivet...whipper snapper cord of equal diameter will suffice cut to length.....can't see why it wouldn't work

Just troll ebay. There is 11ty billion different types, and most show some of the critical dimensions in the ebay listing. They are usually sourced from the usual country, but pricing is good.
I've gone thru about 3 or 4 different styles, and usually just find one that fits the application when I need them.

If you can't wait, most supercheap auto stores have the Champion brand ones in the small hang packs on the carousel type displays, but you do pay a premium.
