Is the traction Control on the TD5 auto Disco normally a little noisy? I did a bit of slow hard offroading over Xmas and got very concerned at the chatter that kept coming from what sounded like the front end each time the TC light came on. I also noticed it only seemed to do it if I hit a large pothole at low speed or going up steep hills with wash outs. I know the HDC is supposed to be noisey, and isn't really worth using as low range first is better. SHould I be concerned or is this a normal LR quirk?

I know the TC in my TD5 Defender makes that buzzing sound and it always seems to happen at weird times. TC comes on when turning out of my dirt driveway sometimes if I give it a bit, but clawing its way thru sand it doesnt activate but it does in mud. 8O 8O Came on yesterday as I drove over a traffic island.(Defender owners hate U turns) https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Sounds normal to me....

Mine chatters away on loose gravel hills and the like when out in the bush..

But I can just as easily make it cut in accellerating out of a concrete drive a little hard.... 8)

With current petrol prices.... there must be some advantage to the V8

The traction control does make a grinding/chattering sound when it goes off. This is normal. The TC light comes on too. It works well.

With the hill desent, I have only used it in low range 1st or 2nd only. With low range 1st it is boringly slow...you have to be dropping off a cliff to feel that its getting out of control. 8O
With low 2nd it felt like it was too loose..in you could call it that. Things happen a little quicker. Its all about control.

Cheers,
Lyndon.

I have also found that the traction control does come on easily when travelling over large bumps and the like. The noise it emits is good lets you know it on.

I have found it to be of great use on rough steep inclines as it cuts the power to any wheels lifted off the ground allowing you to progress where other 4x4 without will fail.

TC, HDC and ABS are essentially one and the same system, just have a different application/usage.

Your are hearing the ABS modulator working hard and also the pads on the discs.

On my bus if I enable the CDL and then turn my car of and on, when it restarts this whole system is disabled, meaning I no longer have ABS etc. which is good in soft sand and placed where you don't want TC etc.
