Had a ride in this beautiful old girl today, a 1968 Jaguar 420g limousine. Fully restored - the leather and timber interior alone cost $10k and smelt like it - with a rebuilt 4.2 six like in the E Type. Very smooth and grunty, but with only a three speed auto she uses 18 mpg of fuel.
Even the air conditioning works great. The owner has her full history and believes there are only eight like her in good condition in Oz. What is she worth? Hard to say, but she is not for sale. A lovely old thing.

Brother in law has a couple of old jags
Will post some pictures next week of his mk2
A beautiful looking machine that sounds absolutely fantastic when driven slightly hard 😁😁

They are beautiful. The owner says this one has been very reliable since being restored. However, it did seem to idling rough so maybe the carbies need some expert tuning.

Jaguar have always produced particularly attractive vehicles.

Nice.... very very nice! Thanks for sharing discomick.
There's just something about Jaguars that stirs the soul, but then I'm happy to say I'm biased ;) ;) ;)

this one popped up on facebook a few days back ... just aroudn the corner from me .... Absolutely lovely. How on earth can it only be worth $3500 :o :o To restore a car to that sort of condition would cost $30,000+
122749122750122751
To put it in perspective ... an old Citroen DS has always had very little monetry value ... but a DS in that sort of condition would be in the 20->$65,000 range depending on model and type.

I got close to Warren Daly's D type Jag a number of years ago. Really a thing of beauty.
If I recall correctly, he bought it for a few million and I think today its worth about $20M ?

Beautiful. My brother has the near identical Mark 10. Built like tanks. At 100 mile per hour (mile) it's like standing still.

I have never been a fan of the appearance of the Mk 10 - they always appeared 'bloated' to me. Earlier models were better looking, particularly the Mk VIII.

Most of the mechanical's are OK , X member bent , twin SU's sliced off side of motor, peddle box , some of the wood trim on the dash & drivers door trim needs replacing. Body a write off , most of the panels were damaged including the roof . The Jag did a 190 deg spin into the embankment The super charged Manaro also spun 190 deg's before hitting the arm-co & sliding along the arm-co for around 50M. Brother got out with a cracked bone in his foot. Ambulance man said he was lucky he was driving the Jag if it had been a modern car he would have a lot more injury.

I can tell you that Cibie Oscar driving lights fit perfectly into the inner light cavities on the Mark 10 (and therefore 420G)...
I love how much room is in the rear...even with the (huge) burled walnut picnic table in the down position....

Depends which era you are talking about. Last bullnose was 1926, and I would put that car at the end of the '20s at the earliest.

Only Ian could turn up for a party in a bus !! The wife's face was priceless when I said a bus load had turned up [bigrolf]
Back to the new toy............I'll give you a clue.......it's 85 years old.........it's british........it was competition for the famous Austin 7.........it was the first car to have hydraulic brakes on all four wheels..........
You can't have a front view shot as you'll see the name !!

No Pedro, "Bring you bus up," said Jerry "we've got seven acres, plenty of room."
He failed to mention narrow, winding driveway when he gave me the address, he also seemed to have difficulty understanding that a three axle coach has a slightly larger footprint than an 88" or his Suzuki. [bighmmm]

2nd May 2017, 10:11 PM
Okay I'll give in..........it's a 1932 Triumph Super Seven 2 seat roadster, part of the body has been replaced about 40 years ago, it had originally been ''hotted up'' and should give spritely performance. However, some people have a habit of telling porkies when selling cars. The motor is rather tired and the clutch needs investigating as it's near impossible to change gear at speed !!
I purchased it with the intention of maybe hillclimbing it or similar. I now have to decide whether to strip it down and sort it or pass it on to a new keeper.
V8Ian
2nd May 2017, 10:17 PM
Jerry, have you tried clutchless changes?
jerryd
2nd May 2017, 10:24 PM
Tried everything Ian, it's probably got a holden release bearing or some other hidden horror in there. Friday will tell if it gets taken to pieces or not [wink11]
Now have I told you about the mint condition, unmolested Nissan Skyline parked in the shed [bigwhistle]

The super seven was launched in 1927 they were fitted with a 7. 9 hp or 832 cc side valve engine. At the time they were the main competitor with the Austin seven but slightly bigger in size and featuring the much more desirable and advanced for its time braking system; four wheel hydraulic brakes. The super seven sports are now very collectible.
Pretty sure mine was originally a tourer Ian
