about to go for TD5 inside remap on my 03 defender -already had EGR removed- centre pipe removed- egt gauge and wondering if upgrading intercooler is really worth the cost -will it make that much difference?

Yes. On its own only helps longevity.
With tune and IC adds longevity and some performance..
Look at BAS HiFlow for the best on the market

So Tombie, what else is currently in the market to compare with (presumably Allard and possibly some AU versions?). Cheers

Obviously larger I/C is preferable with remap but mine has A/C condenser in front and assume would hinder I/C performance?

A bigger/more efficient I/C will still dissipate more heat.
Most everyone has an A/C condenser wedged in front of the I/C and rad. ;)

Hi. I had my 2003 TD5 Defender remapped when new. I bought the ‘best’ larger upgraded locally made intercooler advised then by the remapper. The car is obviously now 15 years old and over 300,000km . Reading, listening and experience has taught me that excessive heat is the No.1 enemy of the TD5 engines reliability. I’m wondering how much of an improvement would be between my 2003 upgraded larger intercooler , and say today’s Allisport improved ‘Lift’ TD5 Defender intercooler. Also has anyone got any experience with Allisports Defender TD5 upgraded radiator that claims 30% more cooling alone.
Cheers,
Duncan.
