View Full Version : Woeful radio reception on a D3

I picked up my "new" D3 yesterday and love it..........EXCEPT the AM/FM reception is terrible out in the bush.
I drove it from Sydney to Adelaide and discovered just how bad the reception was.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve it? Like a real aerial somewhere? And if so, how/where to plug it in.
Maybe I'm old school, but the black plastic thing on the roof does not seem to do a great job, if that is supposed to be the aerial.
Would appreciate any ideas.

Hi.

The black plastic dome (as opposed to a flat blanking plate) is the DAB (Digital Audio Band I think) antenna - doesn't have anything to do with AM/FM reception. Digital reception is usually patchy to say the least outside of major urban areas so if that's what your using switch to pure FM or AM. The AM/FM antenna is usually attached to the rear window glass. There have been threads before about antennae in the D4 forum.

My weekend task is to try to improve the AM and FM reception - so will attack the windows tomorrow.
As the vehicle does not have DAB fitted, what use is the black blob on the roof?????

Don't know about the D3 but D4 reception was great. check that you don't have any issues with the antenna cable attaching to the window areal. If memory serves me correctly they are on the side windows.

The flat plastic thing at the rear of the roof is a blanking plate for TV antenna. this is what goes there:

Nope, no tint. That is on the list of "to do"!
