Looking to buy a S/H Sigma EM140 DG ring flash for my Nikon D300 / Sigma 105mm combo.
Why S/H , it's what the budget will allow. Looked at Nikon SB29 , but no i-ttl metering I'm told.
Lot out of S/H units for Canon , very few for Nikon. So apart from the foot is there any other difference internally. Could l just swap the feet over ???
Also what's everyone's thoughts on the EM140 ring flash. Will be photographing old coins and medals to start with.

Hi,
For coins you can try using a slide projector and a sheet of glass.
Camera mounted vertical over coin
Projector off to one side.
Glass at 45 degrees, camera looks through it and it bends the projector light to vertical in line with the lens midline.
Quite contrasty images, but excellent detail.
Cheers

I take lots of coin images and I use a Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Macro 1.1 lens on my Nikon d3200 camera.
You need a decent Macro lens to take detailed images of coins.

If you are just shooting coins (still life) and not into full-on macro photography, can I suggest that you have a look at these?
a4 lightbox in Art Supplies | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l2632.R2.TR3.TRC1.A0.H0.Xa4+ light+bo.TRS0&_nkw=a4+lightbox&_sacat=11783)
They are really cheap, provide a nice consistent light, powered by USB and some models have adjustable brightness. They also come in A3 and larger sizes.
One positioned on each side of the coins would give a nice softbox effect.
