Afternoon All,

after a 12 year absence of owning a Landrover (2001 Defender 110..never should have sold you..sob), I have started to research my next purchase.. Whilst the heart says buy a 2nd hand Defender, my sore back says buy a Discovery. In particular I am looking at either a 2009 D3 or 2010 D4 (happy to take suggestions).

So I have been doing my research, but being a tall lad (6ft 2) I was worried about head room in the Discovery.. So I saw a 2013 D4 model at the local Dealer, and decided to jump into the front seat.... and my head nearly touches the ceiling... Bugger. I was surprise that I couldn't manually lower the seat any further (using the manual ratchet lever) than what it was set at when I jumped in.

Would I be right in thinking that the seat height in the 2009/2010 models is the same as the 2013 D4 model?? I dont recall having height issue in the 110.

Has the dream bubble burst at the first hurdle?

Cheers
Scott

Hi Scott.

I've got a 2013 HSE D4 but with electric front seats. I'm the same height and have no problem at all even if I raise the seat up. The only thing I could suggest is to lower the back rest a bit. It could simply be that particular car.

Look for one with electric seats. They have far more adjustment and are a lot more comfortable.

As for which vehicle to go for, there's fors and against for both but really there's not much in it. In many respects a 2009 D3 is a D4 in disguise but without the 3 litre option. A 2010 D4 is more modern looking and has a nicer interior but being the first D4 wasn't as well sorted as an 09 D3. However those problems should be well and truly sorted by now. Any problems now will be age related.

Unless you have a strong preference for one or the other, to me it would come down to the condition of the individual vehicle.

Cheers,
Jon

I'm surprised you have an issue, perhaps you're particularly tall in the body?
I'm 6'7" and have no issue, granted my seat is generally right back and down, mine is 2010 D4 with manual seat adjustment.
Never noticed a head room issue and I'm conscious of it in most cars, I have an issue with work LC200, head room just OK, but windscreen too low and find myself ducking to look further up the road. Ergonomics of Disco seem great.

I'm 6'6", and fit in the 2010 D4 with manual seat adjustment just fine

Though I do remember having less luck when I was trying out cars with electric controls - often my head would be touching the roof. That was a while ago though (it was a few years between wanting a Disco, and affording a Disco...) so I may have sagged a bit...
