Hi all
Well I've bitten the bullet (and received approval from the minister of war and finance) and will be picking up my 6x6 GS with winch tomorrow which will be for an expedition build using styromax panels.
This will be a 18 - 24 month build as still working full time/kids etc.
So first thing is to get the truck sorted. It already has rego, side steps and tow bar fitted but to make it a bit more user friendly have the following planned:
1. strip cab, line with dynomat
2. new dash from the left of the instrument cluster with 7" entertainment unit & HN7 gps (out of my D4)
3. seats either stratos 3000 LTSS or ETS 010 (stratos have good feedback not sure about the ETS seats)
4. new wastegated garrett TB2568 with EGT gauge
5. tyres 255x85x16 ?????
6. Red Dot 6100 air con for cab (are there any other options, would love to integrate into new dash)
7. Set of door locks & ignition key
What else should I add???
Regards
Bob

Sounds like a great project, make sure you post plenty about what you're doing along the way, and of course with pictures. :)
Not sure what else you should add - sounds like you've got a big list to keep you busy. :)

Snorkel, long range tank and water tank under the tray plus an extra spare under as well, extra batteries, Hi Tough axles and lockers, 3.5 diff gearing, LED strip lights inside the canopy, Tacho and boost gauges,( where do you want to stop????)
I have a Red Dot 6100 installed in mine as I didn't want to molest the original dash and it works well!
Do you have a good pic of the side steps - I am just about to start building mine and any ideas would be appreciated...............Brian

Brian, how did you manage to get the tacho working? I want to get mine going in my rangie again. Prefer not to pull my alternator apart though to and wire into it, but if its the only way

By 6x6 GS, did you mean a single cab version? If you were taking kids with you, there were around 27 that were a dual cab variant. A bit hard to find, but they are out there. One was for sale an hour or two out of Perth late last year. Sounds like an excellent project by the way!

That's the way I did it Damien. Onto a W terminal on the field coils. Other way you can do it if u have a late model motor is via a sensor that picks up on the pump gear.

Well mine is about a 92 model truck motor from memory and i think i recall a wire hanging off the pump.

It should be on the timing cover immediately in front of the pump.

Yeah, i remember a wire at the front somewhere. Will look tomorrow. Guessing i will need to calibrate it to the v8 tacho

Well picked it up tonight and made it home (1 1/2 hrs) sat on 90ks most of the way and ran fine, but the turbo will definitely need replacing. Reading through the posts here and 4btswaps.com I think the garrett TB2568 is a good match without CAC.
Or would this do: Kinugawa Turbocharger Mitsubishi TD04HL-15T / T25 / 6cm Oil-Cooled (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kinugawa-Turbocharger-Mitsubishi-TD04HL-15T-T25-6cm-Oil-Cooled-/291740956132?hash=item43ed1db5e4:g:70sAAOSwirZTtYg a)
Will start to upload pics (including side steps) tomorrow.

The vehicle is a tray top with winch (no canopy fitted). I thought it was an 89 but looking at the plates on the engine and chassis delivery was 06/95.
Received the door locks, VDO EGT & boost gauges today, went to fit the ignition lock and found a bag behind the seats branded Australian Front Line Machinery with a full set of door locks and linkages!
Hopefully turbo will turn up early next week and can get it fitted up.

will definitely be adding a long range tank, and water tank(s) as part of the build. Body of camper will be styromax 4.5 mtr with full bling (was the trade off for the off road capability).
RE the 3.5 ratios not sure which way I will go with this. Definitely need a higher ratio final drive so I can comfortably sit on 100km but will wait till I fit the body, tyres and load it up to see where I go (diffs or over drive or transmission upgrade).

Thanks Bob, That was a double bonus, a later model vehicle and the locks supplied as well. Here's a few photos of what I have done on mine.

G'day Duane, How are you going these days. Yes It is filled up to the filler plug but bear in mind that it is the rear diff which is tilted up so the rear driveshaft clears the intermediate axle.

Hi
Well got the rego transferred on the weekend and the papers have it listed as "Rigid truck-Not haul trailer over 4.5T" When I asked the RMS staff where they got that from they said that is what they have on file based on the specs of this vehicle???? I thought these 6x6 were only rated at 2t???
Anyway, got the dash lights working and in the process fitted new boost and EGT gauges (had to weld up the old PTO light hole to fit it all in)
123368
and the vehicle is already fitted with a tow bar but I don't think its rated for this vehicle:
