4WD Training

Hi all,

I have purchased my first 4WD and I think I need to be taught how to use it properly. So I am seeking some advice on where to get it.

I live in Armidale, NSW so halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. There is no local 4WD club.

I see that there is a Green Oval Experience 2 day course in Qld in 2 weeks that still might have places open. I have not read any comments on these courses as to their value etc. Are there better alternatives?

So, any recommendations please?

Keep an eye on 'upcoming events' on here, and get together with a few AULRO'ians. There's often catch ups etc. Spend a bit of time getting used to your new vehicle. Learn where everything is, how low box works etc, do a few light tracks and plenty of kms on dirt roads. From there you are ready to come to a meet, or suggest a weekend in the hills. Put out the call, and people will come! :)

Personally, I can't recommend Gordon's course highly enough. Not only did I have a ball, I learnt lots too, and I've been 4x4ing for 25+ years,,, but when it came to the electronics of the D4, I found I really knew nothing. And its not "just" about learning how to use it,,, but learning what the car can actually do, what its capable of.

Hopefully others will come forth with other options too.

Whether you go with a commercial trainer or a club, make sure they understand Land Rovers, their capabilities & how to get the most out of them. Otherwise you risk getting a generalised 4WD course whereas Land Rovers, especially the later model ones, need to be driven differently to most 4WD's to fully experience their outstanding capabilities.
