Hi Guys,

I'm looking to chequerplate my 90 and am having trouble zeroing in on a particular brand. A quick search didn't quite answer what I'm looking for. Here is a list of my requirements, and hopefully someone can suggest a suitable make:

I want a complete set (bonnet, wing tops, sills, and rear sections (behind rear wheels)), and if possible the front bumper protectors as per the genuine LR kit.
I would prefer aluminium for weight saving and reduced corrosion IF it is rigid and strong enough to stand on without deforming
A gasket or suitable panel protection/sealing
flush fittings (countersunk screws or rivets)

seems like a reasonably simple list, but some brands don't sell all pieces, or don't come with gaskets etc and I don't want to mix and match unless absolutely necessary, plus its hard to get real world reviews on each product to see if they do the job re: build quality, fitment etc.

Finally, regardless of brand, can anyone confirm if the bonnet mounts are strong enough to support me standing on them, as I am looking for ease of roof rack access at the front

Many thanks!

I recently fitted some wingtop chequerplate. I went with the Patriot ones from Landybitz. I have no standard of comparison with other brands but I was very happy with the fit and finish of these.

Bit of a write up in my build thread, here:

Funny you should mention them as I was looking at the patriot stuff this evening and decided that I much prefer the bonnet plate that they make as opposed to the single piece. I think I'll go with them too :)

Thanks for the link, its a good write up on installation that will no doubt be handy when mine turn up

Dave.

Just keep in mind the centre bonnet stuff is NOT ok to stand on... the brackets on the bonnet can't take it [emoji6]

Hi Tombie, thanks for the input. This is the one I was interested in getting:

Land Rover Defender PUMA Patriot Bonnet Protector Black Powder Coated. (http://www.landybitz.com.au/land-rover-defender-puma-patriot-bonnet-protector)

What do you mean by the centre bonnet stuff? The bulge?

Edit - Or is that just a wind up that I walked right into? :P

Have a look at the UK manufactured 'TerraFirma' checker plate mate.

Great quality and fit.

Supplied in Oz by Rovercraft in most capital cities. [smilebigeye]

Avoid Britpart wing tops, they are so thin that they were already bent before installation, my guess is that they are designed for the poseurs.

The bonnets themselves - the brackets and frame aren't up to climbing over very often.... [emoji41]

Check if the thickness is only 2mm or 3mm.
I'm planning to run double sided tape around the edges of mine to seal it and keep out the crud.

I have the O.E. items, dealer fitted from new, I have wing tops, sills & rear corners. I've had no problem with it at all.

Double edged sword...

Seals moisture in between as well....

The Patriot ones are the same quality as Genuine, but at a better price, 4.3mm total thickness.

Mammoth are a copy of the Patriot ones, and Mammouth went bankrupt and were bought out by Allmakes, ( Interesting campfire story that one ) I think they are branded both now.
