View Full Version : No 5 is alive!!!!

Just bought a No 5 from a private seller. No ring, (not really an issue, as I'll be changing the bar to suit the Disco hitch/rear door, etc) no cover, no bow.

Going to setup as a camper, using the good Aussie canvas top off my existing camper. Widening the axle to match the Disco, and deciding wether or not to go for brakes - will mean new axle and all the sundries associated with it. Looking at putting slides in the rear/sides as well

First thing will be to pull the box off, patch some holes and clean up the chassis. Some say the ARN is stamped on top of the front or rear cross member. This one has an aluminium plate on the front, next to the drawbar, but, as would be expected, it has been blasted into oblivion by the rocks etc, coming off the tow vehicle.

If anyone around Brisbane has one they've already done some conversion work on, I wouldn't mind dropping in one day to have a look, and get some ideas. [thumbsupbig]

As you are replacing the axle anyway, yes, get a braked axle.
You then won't have any legal overloading issues.

Hmmm. Wonder what would be involved in fabricating an inboard mechanical disk brake system? I'd really like to keep the original hub setup, bulletproof design , easy to repair and with the fitted nipple, real easy to maintain.
