View Full Version : Discovery drivers don't wave.

Just done trips between Brisbane & Gladstone on the Bruce Highway towing the van. Even when towing a caravan they don't wave at other like driven caravanners. I even tried waving at a few solo discos with the same result. Snooty buggers whoever you are.

Get a Defender and you will get many waves.

I have to say that I do sometimes get a wave from a Defender. Probably think I am strange though.

Just done a trip to Sydney and back, I saw at least a couple of dozen various models of Land Rover and waved at every one of them. I got one wave from a Disco 2 and shook hands with a Defender driver.

And I shook hands with a Disco 2 Driver. :banana:I have to say that I get quite a few waves from Discos. Generally the older and or more kitted out, the greater the success.

In heavy traffic north of Nerang, on the way back, I spotted a white Defender towing a white camper. It had AULRO stickers and wheel cover. I managed to catch it up and sounded the horn, but had to concentrate on the traffic. TMFPP wound down the window and waved. She described the driver as 'a fellow with a beard', 'that narrows it down' I thought, 'it's not Jerry.' [biggrin]

If I take the Series out, I get waves from Deefer's and Series, but not Discos usually, although I agree with Cuppa about how kitted up they are. D3s and 4s never wave where I am.

But hey, I used to drive around in an MG. They all used to wave, but it dropped off. Probably they don't recognise the other car, or the phone is more important.

I wave to kitted out disco's but rarely get a wave back.

Ah that would be because everyone's busy waving at the one you're not in.[bigsmile]

That was us. Thanks for the greeting. I'm not used to Discos waving so sorry I was a bit slow returning the wave. Thanks again.

Hahaha closer than you think 😏 Back in those days they handed out real punishments, like "6 of the best",,, and it was suggested to my parents that I should probably be better off at another school,,, hahaha

Watch the hands on the steering wheel. If one finger moves ever so slightly, that constitutes a wave, out west. If the whole hand comes off, and moves around in a waving motion, that is actually shouting at you, and a waste of energy. Or, they could be chasing flies.

Ive given up waving at D3s / D4s around Sydney they tend to be 'soccer moms'

So lonely these days driving a disco. years and years of driving series landy and defender with heaps of acknowledgement. Started out with the disco waving to my peers only to be rejected. The final straw came when i realised i was out of the landy club when defenders didnt give me a way like im a SUV driver. Shattered

Defener drivers are far too busy using both hands to control their trucks to wave at us disco drivers [bigwhistle]

Using the term loosely, this is also a truck. [wink11]

This is a car or station wagon, no matter how loosely you use the term 'truck', this cannot be described as such.

i have had many waves from D1 drivers, never in Melbourne, but plenty between Shepparton and Melbourne when going the back way. I think someone earlier said something about D3 and D4 drivers being Soccer Mums which makes sense. D2 drivers seem to be somewhere in the middle. But its a bit like motorcycles. You would always get a wave and now its very rare, I think it could also be a generational thing.

I was just taking the P***, Here in Geraldton the majority of Landrover drivers return a wave [thumbsupbig]

Funnily enough most of the operators of these generally wave back on the open road as well [biggrin]

Too right, they also tied logs to the back, so they didn't pick-up to momentum on the way back down the aforementioned hills. [bigsad]

Involved was a lithe blonde wearing not much more than lipstick , a mirror with a few grams of coke and some dude with a big grin looking to the sky . The driver through another sunroof seemed more interested in communing with his Jamaican cigar . Would have been nice to share I thought.
