Hiline -- why are you limiting it to these two?
How many people? What sort of terrain are you planning on travelling?

the wife and myself plus 4 kids https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Just from what we have seen on our travels, I would be looking for something a little more sturdy.
Have you ruled out box trailer designs?
Psssst, Iggy might be coming up for sale soon..... :?

Jayco are the most popular at the moment. You will pay a higher price to get it too. There appears to be a waiting list of months and the build quality can be suss.
I have a Hawk if your interested to see it. It has been modified with the axle to raise it 100mm to match the Discovery. If you went for an outback in whatever model you will not need to raise it..if your towing with Kubota.
Working on some pics if you want to see them.
Cheers,
Lyndon.

If you are going Jayco, you will be needing these.
Swan or Flamingo. Go for Outback option. You need to have a full annex as well.
The reason for this is that they are the same van but a different layout. Do not go to a Hawk or Eagle as the living area is 400mm shorter and one of the bed ends is shorter as well. We found the layout important...that we preferred the Hawk because the fridge and cooking area is down one end. We made the bed closest to this area ours and the kids up the other end. If you went the other way the kids are running up & down the van while the wife is cooking tea....not a good idea.
Cheers,
Lyndon.

quality would be high on the list https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ over the jayco
cost the are alot more exspensive than the jayco's 8O
options avaiable most of the options already come with the van
you will need to pay extra for a annexe as you do with most of them
but the main reason would have to be the internal layout and space
i have 4 kids from 6-13yrs old
i'm going tomorrow to check out the Goldstream vans as well
ps/ also welcome to the site mate

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Standard inclusions
A Hot dipped galvanised A-frame not just tacked on the front, but runs right into the chassis.
More durable polyester resin finished panelling instead of the normal paper finish.
We use all marine grade sealant, because it is simply the best and longest lasting.
Positive locking marine grade cabinet catches, simply the best, instead of the flimsy type.
Locking water fillers, you should have them.
Deep cycle batteries, so the van can be self powered without hooking up.
Sealed and vented battery boxes.
Automatic charging systems.
Solar ready electrical system with 12V breakers and meter.
Dual wired for 12V and 240V, a true hybrid electrical system.
Power mover geared jockey wheel to move the van around, makes hooking up a breeze!
Two spares, yes you should have two.
A heavy duty handbrake not the silly thing on a normal hitch.
A 4x4 hitch because a normal hitch only articulates about 22 degrees.
Gas struts to lift double beds for storage access underneath, just makes life easier.
A separate locking security grill on the door (should have).
Fours seasons hatch.
A watertight door for crossing floods and rivers, also helps make it dustproof.
Armour on the water tanks, Mandatory! And independently plumbed for safety in the bush.
Tasmanian oak doors and drawers dovetailed in the corners like Grandma's furniture.
We use real rollers and guides on our doors, because it is the best.
Marine Flojet automatic water pumps, others work, but for how long? This is the best.
Tinted Galaxy windows, helps to keep it cool - and the windows are safer than glass.
Off-road tyres and wheels, can be designed with stud pattern to match a range of tow vehicles.
High-grade fancy stainless sinks.
A range and oven with automatic ignition on the oven and grill and an oven light.
Three way gas,12V/240V fridge, or you can upgrade to a compressor drive unit.
Stone guards on the front, and no boot to bounce the stones back at the tow vehicle.
Proper wheel mounts down onto the chassis, for the spares.
Body armour on the caravan in zinc anneal steel, or option: Aluminium checker plate.
Laminated double chassis in vans from 16' and up.
A departure angle on the back, for pulling up or backing up a steep bank.
Looped high efficiency long life fluorescent lights that burn half the power.
Outside 240V mains power point and much more yet...

If you are just interested in caravanning with an occasional dash off road you might consider an Avan.
We have had ours for 5 years and are delighted with it , we have solar with an additional panel to drive the Engel.
It is very quick to put up, less than a minute, so for overnight stops it is fantastic.
With it's low profile towing is a breeze and at 90kph I get 11L per 100km so I am happy with that.
There are only 2 of us but they have a range one of which incorparates bunk beds for the little ones.
One thing guaranteed is that we always get people keen to have a look and they are invariably impressed with the van.
Will try and find some photos and attempt to put them up.

MM very nice. My out laws have got one of those. They are bloody beautiful. I just want one. I have told my father in law that I want it left to me in his will and then handed him a glass of water and a cyanide pill.
From the ones I have looked at the Coromal seems to be better build quality and at a better price.

I totally agree on the 'family' thing Ray. My kids (now 26 & 23) often pull out the old albums and show their friends the places they've been and the adventures they enjoyed when they were in the high country etc. Surprising too is the detail they remember such as 'That was where dad scraped all the flares off the Patrol' lol. Enjoy it mate, hope to see it in action soon. (reason for my question was that you saved me some research time BTW  )
