It appears that approx. 100,000 diesel jeeps have also been bypassing the emissions regs with software fudges. .

As far as I'm concerned, if the auto companies can so easily circumvent the tests, then the problem is poor tests, not cheating car companies. VW made cars that passed the tests, and everyone blames VW? It's what EVERYONE does, passes tests. Make the tests pertinent, make them real world, or give up.
Never forget, California is the home of Hollywood.

Dunno about that, had less trouble with my 3 vw's combined than our old 300tdi disco.

This sort of thing has been going on for a long time.
Years ago in the UK most electronically injected cars had a 'flat spot' at around 50mph. This was where they did one of the fuel economy test figures so most manufacturers leaned the vehicle off at this speed !!
Some of the aftermarket chips just got rid of the flat spot and the overall economy improved.

Don't some diesel Jeeps have exhaust fluid? I remember reading this somewhere.

Do you mean Adblue Diesel exhaust fluid - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_exhaust_fluid)
Lots of newer diesels use Adblue to reduce emission levels.

Urea? Yep, heaps of modern diesels use SCR, and some are now using SCR along with EGR. Trouble with AdBlue is not everywhere has it, and the car or truck sulks big time if you run out. The Scania used to de-rate by about 25%.

Yup. That stuff. I only heard about it in Jeeps, but didn't think it was exclusive.
