Just thought I'd leave this here. She's our newest acquisition for the family. Found her up NE Vic, she starts runs, only been off the road for a couple of years.

 Chops, I know of a good source of FREE Spares for it not too far from you. We just need to work out a way to distract the owner [bigwhistle][bigrolf][bigrolf]

Looks good Chops. There's a couple of those (and some older ones) around Kalgoorlie at the moment. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on one as a project - but now that I'm back at work, I probably have the money to buy one but not the time to work on it. [bigsad]

Looks rather nice - got any door tops? And the front bumper looks a little strange.

It has door tops although they are a little worse for wear. Chops isn't telling you the whole story - I went on a road trip last weekend with him when it was first viewed - it's a cracking little vehicle that is in great condition. It not only starts and runs, but runs well, drives well, stops well - near new tyres, had a RWC only a few years ago an drew hasn't done much work since. Should be easy to get back on the road and probably is able to be driven to its first test with a permit and nothing else.
Inside is in great condition - hardly any wear to the dash, no holes drilled in it, completely unmolested. Exterior paint is faded back to bare aluminium in places - it looks great, and hopefully will be left in its current condition.
Front bumper has some extensions welded to it - I'm not sure if this was because it may have had a winch or something up front at some stage - it will be easy to put back to where it is supposed to live if that's decided on by the owner.
Best original shorty I've seen in a long time.

Thanks guys,
I think she's a little beauty, but of course the beauty is only in the eye of the beholder.
From what I can tell, she's pretty much completely original, and as Gav say's, it wont be touched. Suffice to say, she will be cleaned within an inch of her life around all the mechanical, any leaks sorted as best as they can be, and make sure all the wiring is in good nick and working well. She does need a bit of a tune, tappets sorted etc, par for course on an old girl.
Looking forward to getting her back on the road, we'll do a bit of light work in the bush, take her to historical type events,,, just so people can see her, and hopefully admire her,, and of course, the big one will be getting to drive her up to Cooma next year [biggrin]

I look forward to seeing it soon Marcus. You should post in the II & IIa section under Series Land Rovers you might get more interest/support.
VicRoads rego check shows rego cancelled 01/03/14
Correct door tops are available (no cutout for the Series III locks). If you're importing parts remember GST gets added soon.
Not sure yet whether I'm driving the Series I to Cooma next year, I may tow it behind the Defender. Anyway, we should be able to get a convoy heading out from Narre Warren if Chris gets his sorted.......

Can someone school me here? I always thought the headlights in the guards started in the series 3's. How long were they on series 2a's?[tonguewink]

In Australia suffix G from 1969, but some areas earlier. Definitely not a Series 3 innovation.

More than likely Kyle. There's a few jobs to do to get her on the road first, but we'll see how we go.

Began in late 2A's, supposedly to comply with ADR's of the day.
I think it was only for export models.
However Toyota's and Daihatsu's were still produced/imported with the narrow headlights up until about 1984, and Suzuki's into the late 1970's.
JD might be able to clarify the exact reason Land Rover began doing so earlier that the other vehicle manufacturers.
Cheers, Mick.

Im not sure but i think it was coz the headlights werent visible from the side, (eg. about 60deg from centre) on 2a, till they first of all bolted them to the guards like bug eyes in late 68 and filled the holes in on the rad panel, then in 69 they put them in the guards like s3 was going to be. Suposedly the "bug eyed" s2a is sought after but im not seeing it...
Headlights were visible from the side on the cruisers and pootrols in the early days even tho they were inboard of the guards.
As far as i have been told anyway.
Cheers Rod

Rod may be right, but I believe it was because the lights were closer set than others such as Landcruisers. The issue with close set lights being that an oncoming vehicle looks further away than it is.

According to Wiki, Feb '69 for the home (UK) market; late production '68/69 SIIa to comply with Australian, American and Dutch lighting regs. Lights remained in this position for SIII.
