I've been thinking for a while that I'd like to see more Series Landy's from AULRO subscribers, and so because there is a 'Show us your Deefers' page I thought it'd be nice to get back to the father, grand father and great grad father of the Defender. I'd like to include any variation of Series I/II/IIa/III and Stage One vehicles Forward cabs included. Some info about it would be great and any photos too, whether new or from the last century, in action or parked in the driveway.
I'll start it off.

Series III 10/1977
Originally 6 cyl. but it's been converted by a previous owner to a V6 Triton/Pajero married to a Supra 5 speed gearbox by a D1 bell housing. I average 14-16L/100klm.
I haven't had the privilege to take her off road yet but I hope to soon (repairs have put adventures with her on the hold for now). I drove her from Brisbane to Melbourne within 24hrs and loved it. The only thing I'd give her up for is my dream version of her, by converting her back to a style side ute with a possible 300TDi aswell as some other minor changes.
Nathan.

First cab off the rank - 1961, Series II, ute... Purchased from an 80 year old farmer in Benalla in Country Victoria. It took 2 years to do a rolling restoration:
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/05/84.jpg
Second - 1960 Series II SWB... Purchased from a farmer in Elmore (country Victoria) - it was his first car. It took 4 years to do a more in-depth(down to the chassis) restoration:
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/05/85.jpg
Next - 1976 101 Forward control.. Purchased from the UK about 3 years ago, used regularly for camping. Lots of mods done to it:

And lastly - a Stage One V8 Station Wagon, project in waiting...

It all started off with a Defender. 40 years living in the UK without a Land Rover, arrived here and soon had my first.

This came next, a Series I 1956 with a lot of home made mods by the first owner.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/05/76.jpg (http://s1245.photobucket.com/user/cradley/media/Series%201%20with%20Welder/DSCF4232.jpg.html)
Made it to Cooma in 2008, not sure whether to drive or tow it there for 2018.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/05/77.jpg (http://s1245.photobucket.com/user/cradley/media/Series%201%20with%20Welder/DSCF3642.jpg.html)
A few details here 1956 Series 1 with PTO welder (home made) (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/series-i-land-rover-enthusiasts-section/159944-1956-series-1-pto-welder-home-made.html)
Next was a Series III FFR.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/05/78.jpg (http://s1245.photobucket.com/user/cradley/media/Series%203%20FFR/DSCF2154_zps604376a7.jpg.html)
Still a 'work in progress'. FFR Refurb (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/leaf-sprung-military-land-rovers/118730-ffr-refurb.html)
Then a Series IIa GS.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/05/79.jpg (http://s1245.photobucket.com/user/cradley/media/Series%202a%20GS/DSCN2807_zps7730a930.jpg.html)
Another 'work in progress'. 2a GS Refurb ARN 178-334 (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/leaf-sprung-military-land-rovers/125841-2a-gs-refurb-arn-178-334-a.html)
Then a Series III shorty with an Isuzu C240 motor.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/05/80.jpg (http://s1245.photobucket.com/user/cradley/media/Series%203%20Isuzu%20C240/20160207_194848_zpsibimjmwz.jpg.html)
This took a while to get back on the road. I had to get a flywheel machined up & balanced, repair threads in the conversion plate, rebuild the gearbox. On Club Permit but still needs some cosmetic work.
A long thread here Isuzu C240 powered Series 3 (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/other-powered-series-land-rovers/151959-isuzu-c240-powered-series-3-a.html)
Then 'finally' a Series IIa Dormobile.
https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/05/81.jpg (http://s1245.photobucket.com/user/cradley/media/Dormobile/DSCF3388_zpsfqigwgzf.jpg.html)
I've spent some money gathering parts, done a lot of work on the axles & brakes and will get it back on the road soon. Walter the Dormobile (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/dormobile-and-carawagon-conversions/214323-walter-dormobile.html)
I've temporarily owned & parted out a couple of others but........

She isn't going to die, but there are some ideas, not least being the 100 inch thing on the RRC that I have as well. Or maybe she should soldier on as she is.

My (now gone) Stage 1 and S3 hardtop.
123952
The hardtop has a blue motor, power steer, twin tanks, different seats, Rocky Mountain windows and quite a few other subtle mods (mostly done by the PO). I bought it a few years ago from Newcastle and drove it home to Bundy. About 14 hours in the saddle but enjoyed the hell of the drive. The Stage 1 was got as a donor for the 3.54 diffs and has since been sold on.
I dig some more out later [biggrin]

Yes, you should look after it. I destroyed my 1100 in less than 3 Years from new. Well actually, it was written off by a Monaro driver but it was well on the way.
It was on it's second gearbox and tenth Engine Steady Bar. The clutch was slipping really badly that night and thats why I couldn't get it going fast enough to avoid being hit up the date.
They shouldn't have advertised it as an off road vehicle. How was I to know?

It has a Holden186 red motor, parabolic springs, 3.54 diffs and a roamerdrive. It get's along very nicely, both on the tar or the dirt.
Next is an 88 inch 2A with a Cabstar 5 speed box, then 1971 2A 88 inch widelight 2286 petrol which we are the second owner of, then a 1972 S3 88 with a Holden 173 (Dello conversion),
then a 1972 88 S3 truck cab 2286cc petrol, then a 1969 2A 109 six cylinder trayback, finally a 1974 S3 109 2286 petrol Hardtop.

I used to have an actual dog named Doris. Beautiful loyal thing. She looks cool. She's got a few dents but it's all for aerodynamics I'm sure!
Bloke I bought her from threw in a LH guard skin. Did I fit it? The hell I did.

Is that how it got the dents? 😂
Is it a 109? Can't fully tell from the angle

She looks super cool. How's it mechanically? Mines pretty much standard. I've pretty much committed to keeping it as o.g. as possible and just preserve most of the patina.
My plan is to make the back into a little basic camper but make it all kinda modular so don't have to bolt too much in.
What do you think about electronic ignition? I heard mixed reviews
Mine is setup for 95 octane but I'm getting pretty low mileage. Around 14l/100 is what I'm getting so far but mine was laid up in a barn for years after my mates uncle Bob's wife died (it was her car) and then after financial woes laid up again for a couple years.
I think that's why I'm finding new leaks all the time. The old gaskets and seal may have gone dry
especially those leather ones
Also. . Do defender roof racks fit easily on series? I'd assume they would? I wanna get one that bolts onto the hinges on the front windscreen at that angle so it shades the cabin as well

Sticking with the theme of marine blue Series, I’ll add one of mine to collection. Cheers, Matt

Not a great picture - but here is the Grey Ghost.. A 1961 Series IIa - very original, and I use it on our 5 acres all the time...

Just bought it this week. It has been sitting since 1999 up North. I have already started on the strip down.
