hey all,

Looking for a recommendation (preferably in Vic) for a workshop that would do a drive in, drive out engine swap (with engineering certs) on my SIIA shorty. Looking to replace the holden 6 with a 300Tdi and R380, talked about it and planned it for years, never have the time. Well I still don't have the time but I've decided to get it done. Not after links to threads where others have done it, I've read them all over my years here :) just looking for workshops that are capable, experienced and willing to do the work.

There's other bits and bobs to be done, like a disc upgrade for the front too.

Cash is sitting there, car is sitting there, just not sure where to drop them both off :)

Cheers,

Adam

Hi Adam,

You could try Les Richmond Automotive in Thomastown. They do quality work - although it isn't cheap (you get what you pay for). I know that they do lot's of work on Defenders, Discoveries and Range Rovers.

I recently used them (drive-in, drive-out) to replace the engine in my 101. I went from a carby V8 to an EFI V8 - which involved work with wiring, EFI computer, maf sensor, swirl pot, oil cooler, etc.. Very happy with the quality of the workmanship. They also handle engineering for the big jobs (LS engines into Discoveries, etc).

Speak to Andrew Richmond.

Cheers,
GG.

I've never been to Les Richmond, but I've looked at their website, and they look to be people who do a lot of custom work, engine swaps etc, they're about to start on the installation of an LS3 into a Defender. They've been around for a long time.
So, IMHO, they'd be good people with which to discuss your transplant ideas.
Pickles.

Do you have the engine & gearbox or does the company you go have to provide them as well ?

If you can wait...... Fred Smith Automotive in Bayswater would take the job on. Takes his time and is a one-man operation. He's the sort of bloke that might have the engine & gearbox sitting around (if he can find it).

Worth a call to get him to quote on the job 9720 4999

Been a major clean up at Fred's lately. I was worried he might be giving it up. He hasn't been there at all when I've dropped in in the last few months. Do you know he's still around, Colin?

Ok. Still quite a few cars out the front, last visit, but all tidied up and neat. Very difficult to access the roller door the way it is.

British Off Road, if you are willing to send it to Qld...

They are currently re-roverfying my s1, have found them to be really helpful, knowledgeable and kept me informed.
The also do in-house fabrication which is useful for a big engine conversion job (or, in my case, wrestling with a modified chassis)

Hi

These guys might take it on except they are in Sydney near Penrith.
They sure have the knowledge and they would have the bits.

Hi possibly give him a call as he can do all you require and organise engineering approvals. He converted my Stage One to 110 colis, discs etc years ago for what is now my ambulance camper, also did pws on my old 101--he knows his stuff -so a call might be useful. he is in Montrose in Melbourne.
