I Love My Landy!

Good evening all,
My 1984 110 V8 has a lot of backlash in the drivetrain (I cannot drive over speed humps or rough country without the vehicle clunking around for example). The drive flanges and axle splines are pretty good (been oil fed for a while). There is a bit of wear in the propeller shafts and rear diff which are both original, but I do believe that the LT95 is responsible for most of the backlash. It was rebuilt at 260,000 km. It has now covered 530,000 km. It still shifts very well, and has only a bit of whining from the transfer case.
What exactly can i check to pinpoint the part of the LT95 that is causing the backlash (without removing it from the vehicle)? Could the centre diff be responsible? I don't believe it was rebuilt when the rest of the gearbox was done. The backlash seems to get worse when the centre diff is locked (i have to be very smooth when driving over rough country, sometimes depressing the clutch to stop the backlash too-and-fro movement of the vehicle). Can the diff be removed from the gearbox whilst it is in the vehicle?
I do believe that Landy's generally have a bit of backlash in the drivetrain, but my Dad's perentie that has done 130,000 km feels soooooo much tighter than mine.
Thank you,
Edward :)
