Just wondering if there's any knife collectors on here? I mainly collect Sog and Cold Steel. I have a few others brands as well. The top 2 of the left pic don't exist. Cannot find anything on them.

Mick.

Hi,
Yes, About 25 at last count.
Folders are my favourite. I focus on knives with interesting deployment or locking mechanisms.

I have not yet got a cold steel, but do own a SOG mini vulcan in a very sharp laminated VG30 san-mai steel. it's the only knife I have with the axis-loc mechanisim which benchmade is renownd for.
Also have a mini sog flash which was part of a bundle with a little led lenser torch. Only really good for opening letters though...

My son would LOVE this thread. He's started to make them as well. If it keeps going, maybe he'll rejoin.

Not in the same league, but my dad carried this for nearly all the time I knew him. When he died nearly 20 years ago I inherited it. Last year I gave it to my son.

You blokes should check the "Embarrassment" thread in The Parking Lot, Banjo makes and sells knives.

I've been mulling over a fixed blade to earn its keep for camping.
Was thinking of a fine upstanding scandinavian product- either something from Helle of Fällkniven.

Leaning towards something from Helle (I'm a sucker for wood and leather), but Fällkniven have really good offerings in their F1 and S1 knives albeit more expensive.

Nice collection BTW!

No ****?!
I've avoided that thread because it's 11ty bilion pages long. Every time I've checked in it's been about somthing other than knives, otherwise I'd be hooked!

Would love to give knife making a red-hot go- I've been invited on a few occasions to the local blacksmith hammer-ins they do, but the stars never aligned... and I've had a solid alibi every time.
There are some incredibly talented Austrialian makers out there, and the products they make can be beautiful. It'd be a shame to use them...

These are mosaic pins that many custom knife makers use as rivets to hold the wooden handles to the steel tang of the knife. Incredible craftsmanship.
They (knives) are a product that can be as simple or as intricate as you want them to be.

Don't start at the beginning Mitch, [bigrolf] go back about ten pages and scan backwards. I think Banjo's been making for a bit over a year.

I'm not a "collector" but I have got a small number of older Pumas , the ones in the yellow/green plastic boxes. I'll get them out one day and take some pics if you're interested.

My using knife is one of these, a RH Puma Trapper's Companion (LH examples exist but I've never seen one). I bought it back in the 1960s fox days at Tumut :)

Vintage Puma 6385 Trapper's Companion | BladeForums.com (http://www.bladeforums.com/threads/vintage-puma-6385-trappers-companion.821628/),

Other "using" knives are folders, Kershaw LB, a Swiss Army metal scaled and even a Rodgers ! These tend to live in various motor cars so I do not accidentally "lose" them at the airport, although to date, at Tamworth Airport, security will put it in an envelope for you to collect from the kiosk when you return.

What's the stiletto job on the RHS Micksta?

Looks like a redesign of the very capable, (and much feared!) Applegate–Fairbairn fighting knife.

Many years back, a mates father showed me his collection of Puma knives. probably 50+, each in their little packs, complete with stickers and their little rockwell hardness impression dots on the blades.
I've never really got on board with the bone handle slipjoint (traditional) folders, but do know that there are some very passionate Puma knife collectors out there.

Also could not call myself a collector, though a do appreciate a fine blade and given more time and Money I could easily start collecting.

My hunting/ camping knives are these two:

A Bob Dozier drop point skinner and a Wenger ' Mike Horn' Swiss Army Knife.

The Dozier is by far my favourite knife, though it is strictly only for skinning and butchering, which means its almost never used these days. Perhaps when the boys grow up and hunting gets back onto the agenda.

Tucked away in a cupboard I also have a very collectable hitler youth knife from the 1930's that I inherited.

By far the sharpest thing I own.

I was an avid knife collector when I was about 8 years old. Dad spat the dummy and threw out all my knives when he discovered I had slashed my bedspread! The irony of it was that I cut the bedspread playing with a razor blade and wasn't game to own up to that.
I did try my hand at making a few knives when I was recovering from surgery a few years ago and had some time on my hands. The first was the hidden-tang skinner on the right which I gave to a mate for his 40th birthday. The full-tang skinner with mosaic pins is mine. I'd love to make a few more but there are so many projects already.

A few of my Cold Steels, and a few Sog Seal 2000's and Seal pups. Bottom Sog is a Tech 2, all are Seki models.

There's a SOG flash 2 on ABF at the moment. It's been sitting there for a while now, and needs a new home. Might be a good transition into folders- Come to the dark side

My collection of Sog Scuba Demos with damascus blades, plus a 20th anniversary and standard model. Bloody expensive things.

I'm not a collector ... No fixed blades ... As to be of any use (just like a torch) ........... It needs to actually be with me when I need it. I carry a SOG power assist on my belt. I've broken it a couple of times, they just send me a new replacement when it breaks. The SOG waranty seems to be absolutely brilliant.

One of the guys on the classic 'van forum makes his own knives.

I recon there's a few current and ex PMs in Canberra that would be collecting knives (in the back)!

I am not a collector, but appreciate good quality knives. I had a "Buck" folding knife that I used to carry when flying helicopters in the bush. Some low life pinched it in Bangkok while the ***** was cleaning the air con in my bedroom. He left the leather pouch, so I did not notice it was gone for a week or so.

In my farming days I had a good quality curved butchers knife for dressing out sheep, also gone Buddha only knows where!

This pic shows my every-(work)day knife, and one of my favourite others.
https://i.imgur.com/DSYrG42h.jpg

I carry the smaller Mnandi at work. Earns its keep cuting my lunch, cartons, jiffy bags, pallet wrap and strapping, and looks damn good doing it, if I don't say so myself. It's tough but unassuming. Looks like a pen when clipped to my pocket.

The larger of the two is a Emerson Knives 'Roadhouse' model. The knives from this maker are a favourite of the US armed forces, due to their rugged construction and interesting chisel grind on the blade. Idea is they are very field servicable, and the chisel grind can allow a capable edge to be ground with limited tooling, while having a greater material mass behind the edge to make a stronger cutting edge.

The other real cool thing about the Emerson knives is the wave feature which allows it to open itself while being withdrawn from a pocket- faster than any automatic knife, flipper, or spring assist.

I don't collect but have a Katz skinner that I used in a previous life.

I used to have SOG Power Pliers, the original ones with the standard pliers but left them on the back of the Defender one day. [emoji22]
And someone on a job decided they needed my Ka-Bar more than I did.
Neither have ever been replaced.

Uninformed collects, I should direct him here.

I was an avid knife collector when I was about 8 years old. Dad spat the dummy and threw out all my knives when he discovered I had slashed my bedspread! ........

I had a similar thing happen on my 15th birthday, my Dad made me throw away my teddy, and all my other lingerie, ha,ha.
If I started to collect knives, the one I'd want to get is a penknife I saw made in France, and the way they fold the metal when making the blade, results in a four pointed star pattern.

I like the Lansky knife sharpening system Lansky Sharpeners - Professional Knife Sharpening Systems & Kits (https://lansky.com/) but in the last few years I've been using the razor/paint scraper blades for opening boxes, packets, cutting hose pipe, etc. They are very sharp and cheap as chips. Craftright Scraper Blade - 100 Pack | Bunnings Warehouse (https://www.bunnings.com.au/craftright-scraper-blade-100-pack_p5760185)

In the army I lent my Swiss knife to a millwright, who to repay the favour sharpened it for me, it was was so sharp, that when I cut the tip off a tube of silicon, it cut right into my thumb!

It might not have been anything special , but I think I have somehow lost my opinel pocket knife 👿
I have had it for years . I’m used to not having cash in my pockets but without the knife , oh so empty.

I have a few Schrade Old Timer pocket knives which I have had for decades.
I find that they are reasonably good quality and hold their edge rather well.

Cheers, Mick.

I was impressed with the carbon steel Opinels I have. Very simple, and nice to use. I keep a No:8 Opinel in the picnic kit.
