Gentlemen,
Is there anyone is Australia who can help with repair or replacement of the Series 1 steering box?

I have a quarter turn of free play in my steering, even though I have replaced all the tie rod ends and the relay. I cannot detect any "lag" in movement in the box, so any movement of the wheel results in an immediate movement to the steering drop arm, but I am running our of things to repair.
My 53 model is a joy, but the vagueness of the steering is quite disturbing.

thanks

I did read that the early ones flexed where the steering box mounted to the bulkhead. I saw one a while back with reinforcement in this area.

Get someone to turn the wheel while you look.
Check the bush in the box, the movement may be sideways instead of rotating.
Check the relay for side movement instead of rotation.
As Grommit said , look for flexing in the bulkhead.
You should be able to see where the loss of movement is.
