I don't think the owner of the two million dollar plus car would be very impressed with the Hampsters driving ability.[bigwhistle]

I heard both figures Jim, I assumed one was US dollars, the other real bucks.[wink11] Doesn't make much difference mate, the likes of ye'n'me can't afford it. [bigsad]

Note that it was an electric supercar that caught fire and was destroyed.

I wonder what Dickie's insurance excess is.

He needs to quit whilst he is ahead.
He had a serious one 11 years that put him in a coma for two weeks.

Was going to say, he's making a habit of it.

I wonder what Nikki Lauda would say to that.

given the speeds they regularly do, a crash occasionally is to be expected.

Probably a good idea that he gives it away now before he kills himself in the near future- look how bad his approach angle is to that corner.

Pretty obvious from the full screen vid that the rear end was light and had no grip. At speeds like that few people can recover a rear end lift off.

Poor aerodynamics may be a part of it. Downforce at speed can be important.

Mercedes Benz aren't novices. The makers of the car Hammond was driving could be.
I'm not defending Hammond, but I watched as Ayrton Senna hit the wall, I watched Lauda crash, and then Schumacher fell off his skis. These three are the greatest drivers I have ever seen, along with Henri Toivonen, who died in a group B accident.
One thing though: it is a credit to the guys who built this car that Hammond is alive at all.

Thats kind of my point John - even the best drivers have accidents. I like the Hamster and I wouldn't like to see him kill himself. By the look of that footage he was not driving well, and its not the first bad accident he's had.
Definitely the rear end appears light under brakes, but I do think that he was too fast into that corner and got himself into a terrible position - I'd have thought he should be much further to the right of the road to approach a hard left corner like that.

Yes, he didn't apex all that well, did he? I'd like to see more footage of the 15 or so seconds prior to what we have seen. The car looked unsettled to me. Was that Hammond, or was it the car?
The other bad accident, the BIG one, was clearly a tyre failure. I doubt God could have saved that one.

From that footage it looks like he was going way too fast for the corner and had no hope of making the turn.

Maybe so. However, that footage tells us nothing at all really, other than he crashed.

I saw a reference to a fire in the car in one report. But that may be wrong.

I wonder if the fire caused the crash, maybe by cutting the brakes.
