I saw this on the LRSOC Forum. Those members on here would have seen it.
Nearly 8000 miles across Africa and not one puncture.
Four people in an 80 inch from the UK to Rhodesia with all their gear and spare parts etc. An incredible effort.

Great Read !
All you need is a sense of adventure , and that would have been quite the adventure .

Another good read is "First Overland " by Slessor , a LandRover specific trek from London to Singapore in the 50's.

Yes, read that too.
I meant to add to first post, that if you click on the photo links on that front page you get to see that poor little landy.
Roofrack with 35 gal tank etc. Spare spring packs tied on the front, etc etc. Shows how tough those 80,s were.

The Adelaide bushwalking club undertook an expedition to the big red rock in 1951, two vehicles took them, a 1950 Land Rover and a 1948 Austin truck. The truck carried enough petrol for the whole return trip in 44 gallon drums.

The trip was filmed by one of the expedition, I have it somewhere on a DVD , in colour . The movie is narrated by the film maker .

The big rock was deserted when they got there , not a soul in sight. Great scenes of the Rover packed with people , the two vehicles ran faultlessly . They detoured to Alice Springs where other 80" Land Rovers are to be seen in the main street.

That would be a great film ! Calls for a moooovie night .

I can remember going in 1980 , as a school trip - we camped up against the rock ! Took my girlfriend in 1988 and had to camp about 500m away , when we returned in the mid 90's could only 'camp' at the resort !
