Hi all, I am probably replacing the transmission in my D3, as the old one is shot. I do not want to use the old mechatronic. I have been told by a couple of people, including Justin Cooper, that the new transmission will need to be coded to the vehicle. Has anyone done this themselves? And specifically, does anyone know for sure if the IIDBT can be used to do it? I have got the latest VIN specific firmware for my current transmission, obtained from GAP Fastlane.

Thanks

Hi Will. Firstly i would email Gap directly and ask them, and if so then it will be a good result😊. Or you can get it to lr or a&b in Dandenong for programming. I would even call Syd there at a&b and ask him he is very helpful.

Thanks Justin. Is it correct that the box just won't work until it's recoded, meaning that I would be unable to move the vehicle? This is the crux of the matter, and will decide whether I and a friend do the replacement, or a transmission specialist.

To close this thread off, these are my experiences. I bought the FastLane service from GAP-IID to have the latest VIN specific flash for my transmission loaded into my IID tool. The transmission was replaced by my chosen specialist, Transtyle in Hallam. I arrived onsite, connected a battery pack to maintain voltage, and flashed the ECU with the IID-BT tool. It takes about 8 minutes to do the flash. Restarted car, worked perfectly. The flash resets the adaptive settings, so it's thumpy for the first few changes, then smooths out well.

So in short, yes the IID-BT tool can be used to program a new transmission, if the FastLane service is bought for the transmission ECU.
