View Full Version : ### Mega Raffle, drawn 29/07/17 ###

V8Ian
11th June 2017, 09:18 AM
This Raffle is being run by and the sole responsibility of V8Ian and Hodgo.
There is no connection with AULRO other than the kind gesture of allowing us a vehicle for the promotion of the fund raiser.
The purpose of this raffle is to raise funds to send Kelsey and if possible Kenley to Canada.

The background is here.

Let's get Kenley to Canada. (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/249973-lets-get-kenley-canada.html)

It was a pleasure to meet Land Rover enthusiast Hodgo yesterday, you meet the nicest people in a Ford.

Apart from the usual guff old farts, from similar backgrounds rabbit on about and Land Rovers we discussed running a raffle.
Hodgo enlightened me on how to do this , ticketlessly and online.

An anonymous forumite from Bracken Ridge, whose name starts with a W, ends with an S, has two Es and a D in it, has generously donated a Rescue Swag.
To this we will add a fuel voucher, or two, depending on support. Tickets will be $2.00 each, with a bonus (book buyers' prize) for five tickets or more, again, depending on support. Our aim is to raise 200% of the prize value, hence the "umm, not sure about the prizes yet".

If we can get the support needed, we can have this up and running by Wednesday 14/06/17. The draw will be at the next AULRO social gathering on Saturday evening 29/07/17.

Please indicate your support/interest below.

The prizes are as follows, but not necessarily in order.

Rescue Swag.
Book 'Kokoda' by Paul Ham.
GME TX6155 hand-held UHF radio.
26 piece 1/4" drive socket set.
Inflatable mattress.
Prepaid fuel card.
91 - 2005 Defender Master cylinder.
AULRO is handing out a 2 year Gold Subscription to AULRO.
Rear step to suit a Defender.
Car detailing kit.

Just to add a bit more to Ian’s last post The plan is to raffle a pre paid Caltex or BP fuel card with a first prize of 1/3 of raffle takings in any item that a service station sells If sufficient funds were raised we could have a 1st , 2nd and 3rd and may be an extra prize for any one buying more than a given amount of tickets. Well the data entry girl at the bank has had a slack attack, of the two deposits made over the weekend only one has shown up, presumably Mick's but the detail is "available next working day". Mark, yours isn't even showing yet, the other one didn't appear until 10.00am.
So no updates this morning.

It is very pleasing to see the bank $940 as of now, don't forget you can sell to your neighbors and friends at the moment that's a $333 fuel card A big thanks to all that have supported it I was a bit concerned as to how it would go, but that concern is now a thing of the past.

The support for this is unreal, the prizes keep rolling in.
Latest has been kindly donated by none other than the legendary Justin Cooper.

A set of filters, fuel oil and air for d1 tdi / v8 and D2 td5/v8. Postage at standard rate will be included.

Did you say you would fit them on the winner's driveway, Justin? :tease:

Could a mod please add this to the list of prizes please? You better not transfer the fitting bit. :lol2:
Thank-you for your support, Justin.

This as of yesterday;

"The Go Fund Me is now at about $4800, a bit under half way. Add to that about a grand from the raffle and we're a bit over half way.
Time is marching on, if you intended to kick the tin, or buy raffle tickets, but haven't yet got around to it, please make the effort now. Thanks. [bigsmile1]"

Let's get Kenley to Canada. (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/general-chat/249973-lets-get-kenley-canada-20.html)

Kelsey could do a triumphant fund raising ride across Canada and maybe the US ( Homeland Security would need a kickback ) and raise even more money.

About an hour ago I sat down to check emails etc. and AULRO and lets fund me for progress what a pleasant surprise The members of this forum are beyond my words its great to see what has happening.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who took the view that daughter should get there well enough with local support, and the real thrust for us was to make sure dad got there too, given his incredible support during her development.
Come on folks and a special thanks again to all who have already contributed. I'm sure these deserving locals could do with just a wee bit more help from us. I don't think they will ever forget aulro!

V8Ian
2nd July 2017, 07:19 PM
The original fund raiser was instigated by Kelsey with all the impetuousness that a tender sixteen year old can muster, no consultation with Dad was deemed necessary. Consequently, the figure quoted in the appeal is somewhat optimistic, marginal to say the least. The paperwork to leave the country, alone, is 10% of the funds raised, so the raffle is still crucial.
Please keep up the support, tickets are not restricted to AULROians, so spread the word.
Thanks.

Ticket sales seem to have slowed just before a thousand. It would be be nice to get to the magic K, wonderful to go beyond.

Hodgo, we have less than a fortnight to the draw. To be fair to all who wish to attend, the venue will have to be selected. As 90% of the buyers, within travelling distance, live in the outer northern suburbs or north of Brisbane, that area is the most logical. As such, I will make a booking at Arana Leagues Club, tomorrow.
Arana Leagues Club (http://www.aranaleagues.com.au/)

I will start a new thread later today to gauge numbers.

Can't understand why "90% of the buyers, within travelling distance, live in the outer northern suburbs or north of Brisbane".
With a national forum combined with the well known Land Rover camaraderie I would have thought that support for such a worthy cause (not to mention the possibility of some great prizes) would have been more widespread.

Come on guys and gals forego a few cups of coffee and buy a few tickets and let's see if we can far exceed the 1000 that V8Ian has mentioned.

Thank-you everyone for the wonderful support. The donors of the prizes, ten of the eleven were donated. The Mods and Admin who gave their time freely to edit, update and promote the fund raiser. The King of AULRO, Incisor, for allowing the use of the site. The ticket buyers who parted with their hard earned. Everybody should feel proud to be part of this compassionate community.
Collectively, AULRO have made it possible to hand over $1720 on top of the considerable money donated on the Go-Fund-Me site.

Great effort everyone.
I was surprised to win a prize, so thanks to Weeds.
Arranging to send my book to the winner.
Was great to meet Kelsey and Kenley - they certainly deserve our support.
Was also excellent to put faces to other names.
That's what makes AULRO a community.

I to would like to thank all those on the forum that have assisted in making this raffle a complete success and for all those that have not meet Kelsey I can assure you she is worth every penny and minute that we all on this forum has put into it. She has promised to keep us all updated on a daily basis of her achievements while away via this forum so stay tuned .
Last night was a total success with people travelling from as far away as Bundaberg and Warwick to enjoy the evening.

Like the the others, but even more even more so in our case. Kelsey and I would like to thank everyone for last night and for the whole experience. A very pleasant evening, and if I may say so, us AULROians are a good bunch of people to hang around with.

I was fortunate enough to have been one of the lucky winners. Its the Defender master cylinder 1990[something] - 2005 model. My Defender is 2008, but even so I had said that if I did win it would go back into the draw. I decided against that last night and would like to offer my prize to someone deserving or needing of it. I would like first preference to go to a fellow raffle entrant or to someone who helped on Kelsey's GoFundMe page but really to anyone who needs it and not just to re sell.

KenleyConsidering the amount of fluid coming out of my master cylinder, in the not too distant future I am likely needing a replacement.

I bought tickets to the raffle, so if possible I would like to jump to the front of the line if it's still available.

BUT I would like to pay what you want for it, plus postage to Sydney.

Let me know if that works for you.

It's yours then Joe, I didn't want anyone to sell it , but in your case as you bought tickets you have already paid me for it. If anything you can help out Noel (the donor) with the postage. Tonight when I get back to iPad or computer I'll pm you both to try sort out next step.

Just wanted to acknowledge Weeds for coming up with the great idea for the raffle, and getting the ball rolling with the first donation. Your generosity (both with this and many previous give-aways) doesn't go unnoticed. :clap2:

Also, well done to all the sponsors. Unfortunately I couldn't stay long, but was nice to put some faces to names :)

While we're in gratitude mode, lets all give a big hand to johntins for suggesting the whole crowd funding notion, V8 Ian for sparking interest and glueing it all together, collaborating with Hodgo on the raffle and all the background work, Hodgo for setting up the bank accountant mechanism for the raffle, all the prize donators and all those who put their hands in their pockets and pulled out the funds.
Asside from the raffle their was the go fund me campaign which saw generous contributions from AULRO members. In particular tact and the mysterious NQ AULRO, not to mention the skilful goading by Ancient Mariner.

All of these people need a very warm hug and a big pat on the back.

Thank for letting me know you received then Fuel cards are great prize as they can be used any where in Aust. and if you traveling for holidays etc they make it a less costly for the family. The first time I ever used fuel cards I was laughed at but they have been a great success in fund raising The next best was a $1000 prepaid card on Woolworths the women had no trouble buying them.

Sorry for the confusion hodgo......it might have been a case of timing. I certainly didn't intend to take the glory away from the actual organisors.

when johntins started the whole crowd fund thing I sent him a PM suggesting a raffle or auction and that I had a prize or two to kick start whatever was organized. johntins replied saying he sent a PM to incisor requesting approval to run a raffle....than a raffle post popped up some days later so I put two and two together but never seeked conformation just figured you and ian and John must have been chatting......

than I was speaking to ranga about my PM and suggestion..

Thanks Cliff
For all her physical ability she is still a very young woman. I'll be honest in that at times the stress of training combined with still wanting to do well in her final year of school (her last report card was all B's and an A+) has been very tough on her mentally. The thought that she had to win because that's what she thinks everyone is expecting of her has had her in tears occasionally.
The competition will be very tough. This is her first international event, she has nerves before every event, these two events are on a bigger scale. I'm sure she will be jittery beforehand.
But she's done the training and in my mind already a winner. As has been said here already, nows the fun part, go over there and make the most of it.

Expectations... Kenley, please tell her that we will love her for having a go.. This was never intended to put pressure on her, it was to get YOU there to take the pressure OFF.

Absolutely agree. She's already a winner by her commitment. I'm sure everyone is just happy to have done what they could to give her the chance to have a go, which is all anyone could expect. Anything beyond that is a bonus.
