Hi,
I have a "Air On Board" compressor that has started making bad noises after 4 yrs.
When I pulled it down I found one of the magnets has come off the barrel housing, and turning with the rotor until it hits the rods holding the end plates on. I have emailed the company, (at least the Aust distributor), They haven't heard of this happening before and have advised to araldite the magnet back into place.
Anybody have any other thoughts on this? I have devcon 2 pack epoxy and sikaflex here, unsure what to use.

Hi strength - 24 hour - araldite is what I'd use. The forces imposed on the magnet are quite strong. Sikaflex would allow movement which would eventually lead to another failure IMO. Not sure how sticky devcon is.

Devcon should work,,

What type of Devon?? Needs to be heat resistant as these compressors get hot!!
I'd use this as goes to 93degC
ITW Devcon | Devcon Brand | Epoxies (http://www.devcon.com/products/products.cfm?brand=Devcon&cat=Epoxies)
But if you can find a better heat resistant type I'd be using that??

Thanks for your thoughts.
My main concern is heat. I am going to have another look and see if I can drill & tap a hole. A bolt, combined with devcon should hold it for a while, and a run to BigRedBash in 3 weeks.
I think I should get a replacement in the long term.

See if you can pick up some JB Weld.
Good for temps up to 550F when cured according to the specs: J-B Weld Twin Tube

Thanks to all.
I did reply to this post a while ago but I see it never came up??? Dodgy internet and computer here.
While putting magnet back in to mark its position, it decided to jump over to the other magnet - very fast, and smashed into 3 pieces[bawl]
After emailing Air On Board again, I asked about buying a new housing.
He then gave me a call, he had a second hand one that they had tested to destruction before they imported them. The pump wore out eventually, but the magnet housing was fine. He gave it to me for postage cost. very happy with his help.
Has been to Birdsville and back twice in the last 2 months, used a fair bit and going fine again.
