Gentlemen...........and others. [biggrin]
My 2008 RRS has 20inch rims. I'm happy with them. I have an opportunity to buy some 22inch rims. Now you purists who want to bush bash wouldn't like them because you can't get muddy tyres but for someone like me (a pretty boy [bigwhistle] ) I reckon they'd look better. I intend to keep the 20's for when I'm towing my van but are there any downfalls in the 22's to watch out for? I guess they would ride rougher with lower profile but..........
Your experienced knowledge would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Downfall?
Just plain ugly?

It could look quite good, if you go ahead i look forward to seeing images. Downfalls, speedo will be out, you may also have issues getting into Underground carparks at normal height.

Thanks guys. The 20's have 45 profile tyres and the 22's have 35 profile. Will that make them roughly the same rolling diameter?
This is the old girl with the 20's.

Downfalls are harsher ride, more expensive tyres, more easily damaged tyres and more easily damaged rims.

Thanks mate. I'll keep the 20's for when I tow the van into the country roads etc. I take your points but the price I'm paying would make your eyes water. [tonguewink] I get my tyres from Tempe Tyres in Sydney and they have 22's for under $150 a corner. I've had Atturos on my X5 for years and get 40,000kms from them. The damage from ruts in our lovely roads now could be an issue, I'll concede that.

Would I be better to tow my van with the 20's and 45 profile tyres or would you think the 22's with 35 profile would be OK?

You haven't given enough information to make a calculation, we need the width.

I've had the 22 inch Stormer on my RRS - they were surprisingly good and look great .
Speedo was possibly reading a little slow ...maybe 8 kmh.
in my old posts they would be a pic , I now run the standard 19inch with General Grabber A/T tyres 55 profile .
I still have them , might be time for a change again .
go for it .

Thanks for the reply. I have a Hema Navigator and always use it as my speedo. Just got in the habit of looking there when I want to know speed rather than looking at the actual speedo so accuracy is not an issue.
I'll check your Stormers out. [smilebigeye]

Picked up the 22's today. Heading off to Lightning Ridge on Wednesday with the van. I'll be home in about 2 weeks and have the 22's fitted then.

I've got 22's, Got at least 50k out of the tyres, never had an issue with the tyres, damage to wheels or any of that kinda stuff.
Ride is a bit harsher and you can feel the bumps and humps, but really not bad at all.
I think they look great..

One question though.........how do you keep your car so clean......especially since it's black? Unbelievable.

We have a set of Genuine 22 machined silver with Black Stormers we love the look of these on our Buckingham Blue 2008 L320. We have the 19's going on now for our trip to Darwin with our Camper.[smilebigeye]

Yeah, I intend to keep the 20's for towing the van and the 22's for looks. Not that I don't like the 20's..........but I really like the 22's.
Enjoy the Darwin trip mate.
Photos of your car would be great.

Fitted the 22's today. Love them but as I said I loved the 20's as well. One thing I've noticed is the Pirellis feel lighter than the Coopers and if it's possible for the car to turn in and handle better, it seems to do that but I guess the Coopers are a compromise tyre and the Pirellis are bitumen only.

No rubbing mate but in my earlier days I would say if the tyres weren't rubbing I needed to fit wider ones and lower the car a bit more. [smilebigeye]

These Coopers might get close to rubbing I think. I have them on my 20" rims but they are the same size as originals.
These are 305 X 40's. as opposed to 285 X 35's.

According to Ron's calculator they may be out of the question.
Diameter 29.9 v. 31.6
Width 11.2 v. 12
Sidewall 3.9 v. 4.8
Circumference 93.7 v. 99.2

Good but that's when they are not on 22" wheels. I don't even like the 20" wheels on my L322.

Hi , Just joined this forum. I have a 2006 RRS that I brought a couple of years ago .It came with 22" wheels that looked genuine Stormers and 35 aspect tyres. Found out later that LR never had 22" wheels for this model and they were aftermarket.
Had 2 problems with them.
1. The centre hole was not in the centre ,therefore it was impossible to balance them except on a balancer with provision for wheel studs.[bighmmm]
2. The wheels cracked on the inside rims. Most likely going over speed humps in suburban streets with the low profile tyres and non genuine rims not up to it.[bigsad]
I would be very careful before considering 22" rims. I have actually gone back to a set of late model genuine 20" rims and tyres with a bit of meat on them.
P.S. The rolling radius is even greater than the 22" wheels and tyres.

Further to my last post . I am just getting the hang of how to upload etc.
So I have attached some photos of the damaged 22" wheels and the 20" ones I am now running.
I have 4 very good 22" tyres and 2x 22"rims if anyone interested PM me.

Hmmm, Thats what concerns me with the 22" rims , not enough tyre to absorb impacts and the roads are a bit 'rough' - not even considering off road .
Q - tell us about the falcon ? I think its an early girl .... chrome bumpers , twin exhausts .

Good picking that up . But no not a Falcon, its a LHD 1965 Pontiac Le Mans Same body as a GTO but the luxury Model -Retracting seat belts and factory Air- Con. Funny though the Front looks very similar to a ZD Fairlane with the twin upright headlights.

Hi guys
Great post here, I just bought a RRS MY09 with 22’s on it, drive it back from Melbourne to Sydney...such a awesome drive compared to my old Jeep
Was thinking of getting a set of 18’s or 19’s for a few camping trips (soft off-roading) and also for the snow mid year, or do you think the 22’s would be ok?
Here is a pic

The 19” tyres feel more squishy .
Not in a bad way , just less crash and stiff , i have a set of the 22” but have put 19” on with a 55 profile Tyre , much better for off road and I feel they have better longevity on the country roads I drive on .
The rims I s do look nice on your RRS tho !

I have a set of 20" rims as well with Cooper Zeon LTZ's. I'd say they were good for soft off-roading but others might think I'm too soft. 135004
