View Full Version : Steering relay splined arms top and bottom - how to remove ?

Hi All, I am trying to remove the top arm from the steering relay splined shaft and not having much luck. I have obviously undone the bolt, but can't remove the bolt due to the batter box being in the way, hammer a screw driver in the gap, and used a forked ball joint tool to lift the arm a few millimeters, but it won't go any further. And the other end of the arm is also loose/undone from the rod going to steering box.

Any clues on how I get this arm off ?

Also asking for the sake of the bottom arm presuming I'll have similar issue with it.

Thanks
John

John you have to remove the bolt as it sits in a grove in the splined shaft, stopping arm from coming off, once the bolt is out it will come off easily using your screw driver technique.

Ah ok, thanks Paul.

So, presumably the bottom one should come off first, then i can turn the top one such that the bolt is clear of the battery holder ?

Thanks
John

If it still won't come off drive a cold chisel into the gap so to spread the arm slightly then leaver it off with a screw driver. You also need center pop the shaft & the arm so they go back on in the correct position.

Looking at mine, you should be able to turn the wheels so the bolt can clear the battery box support, but if not, you can, as suggested, remove the bottom one first.

Thanks John, and also I though when putting it back together maybe I can put the bolt through from the front, make it easier to get out next time !!

Cheers,
John

Looks like there is enough room for that.
