Just found a couple of interesting Pics on a flickr set about rescuing wildlife stranded by the damming of the Ord River. Malcolm Douglas and Harry Butler both appear in the set.

I still have one, it's a 12ft De Havilland Seabird. Goes extremely well with a 25hp Johnson on the back. They have a flared bow a bit like the Quintrex of the same vintage. Those Trojans were about 18ft I seem to remember and extremely strong even if they were riveted.

Yeah mine was a good boat, used to take it into the tasman sea. Just had to bail it out now and then, as the rivets let water in.

I remember this bloke getting crucified by the greenies for daring to work for the miners. Never mind that he was there to help rehabilitate mined country. Never mind that he knew about a thousand times more about the bush than his critics.

Agree, great photos.

Lovely country in that part of the Kimberley... Its amazing what got caught behind the dam wall, all sorts still living above Argyle dam wall...

I heard a lot of stories about the country under the water and about special places that my friends can no longer go to...

"Harry Butler!", a friend of my families, went to the same school and knew Haryy, boy did he hate his guts.. Called him the biggest hypocrite he knows...

Apparently Harry use to bring animals to school and torture them... would catch skinks and then kill them...

I still remember John watching TV and Harry Butler came on, he reconned "the worlds stuffed when a leopard changes its spots and becomes a tv star"...

But then, John's water polo coach was Rolf Harris.. And when you think about it, these people from Bassendean/Ashfield area are all weird...

.. And when you think about it, these people from Bassendean/Ashfield area are all weird...

I think anyone who picks up snakes that are top ten most deadly in the world when you are days from any proper medical care has to be a bit weird yes. [tonguewink] But I admire their commitment and passion.

Yeh they did a good job... The snake handling dont bother me but the Ashfield/Bassendean connection is weird....

Mind you I dont like snakes, but I dont run, I just keep them away from home...

King brown, dugites, Tiger snakes, Guardas, all scare the **** out of me and they are the ones i've been close to...Others but cant remember much, probably running too fast to remember...

I have a couple of big pythons living under and around the old house.
They do give the Missus a bit of a fright every now and then But at least she now knows the difference between them and the dugites and doesn't bash them about with a shovel anymore [bigwhistle]
I can't understand why people deliberately drive over a snake when they see it on the road, It's not as if it is going to attack a thumping big 4WD.

I have lived at my property at Kilmore for about 15 years, never seen as many snakes as here. We get a lot of tigers and I have seen a few browns. During the last drought they were all coming up to the house looking for water which is a bit more uncomfortable than when they are out in the paddocks. They do try to stay out of your way if they know you are there. I think they are just something you learn to live with, and you keep your eyes open as you walk.

I have one Tiger snake that has reduced my horse by 3 so far... If the horse where at home, the snake would be gone...
But he shares the paddock and must be a bad tempered sod, dont like nosey horses...
No point killing a Tiger snake, another just moves in to replace it...
Only time I kill them away from the house, is when you get chased and I have only had that happen once... By a Tiger snake of course, ours down here have bad attitudes and no manners...
