I assume you mean like all the tariffs we put on everything imported years ago ND? I'm not sure the Prince actually exported or really produced anything and I'm not sure it would have given the gov. much income either.
How the hell did a little place like that ever attract a tax bill of 3 mill.? A few tourists buying stuff etc. couldn't possibly be that profitable could it?

Not sure where else this thread could have gone other than towards the obviously Politcal slant it has....

NO POLITICAL CONTENT IN THE GENERAL FORUMS.

I am locking this while we discuss.

Interesting reading the 1st paragraph.
"The founders of Australia's oldest micro-nation, the Hutt River Province in Western Australia, have been ordered to pay more than $3 million in taxes owed.

The formerself-proclaimed sovereign Prince Leonard Casley and his son Arthur lost a Supreme Court battle against the Australian Tax Office (ATO) on Friday, which had demanded they pay income tax for the eight financial years between June 2006 and 2013."

So in reading this it states the oldest micro- nation, so there must also be others out there., and he must have been paying his taxes prior to 2006 as they are only seeking taxes for 2006 to 2013.

They've obviously been up to something if they owe that much, but I've no idea what. Must be expensive souvenirs there...

Maybe applying for a visa to get in to buy souvenirs and the departure tax on leaving is very high for the tourists?

This has always been a fascinating little story to me.
If I were king of my own province I would decree telemarketing an illegal activity[biggrin]

Politically motivated robocalls would be right up there..

Would not of thought that there would have been any other micro nation after Hut river province as they closed the loop holes that he used to create his little nation. I do remember that he had to meet some sort of criteria. Had to have armed forces air force ( has or had a Cessna as a air force plane ) some old military hardware for his army etc. Was a bit of a laugh to read about it.

I'm lucky enough to have visited the principality and met the he prince. He gave us plenty of his time.
The whole thing started because of government beauracracy and they are still after him.
I don't know how he makes a dollar out of it.

"I don't know how he makes a dollar out of it".
My point exactly. How they ever earned enough to pay or be liable for 3mill tax is beyond me. It's just a sheep/wheat station and tourist venture! But this seems to be a typical ATO thing of pursuing the little man while the Mr Bigs hide their profits overseas.
