Android head unit supporting trip computer and other lost functions

Hi guys, I can't seem to find anything so far before I start messing around but was wondering
1. Has anyone on here played with the CANBUS signals to try replicate the factory computer functions already?
2. Is anyone interested in helping out if I were to try developing an android app for this?

My thoughts are for the Chinese android car radios that replace the factory one, not for phones so only looking at devices that plug directly into the CANBUS line.

Of course of anyone's familiar with the factory units and knows if they use something other than CANBUS that's also good to know before I start [biggrin]

I've finally found a head unit that I think might be good so purchased it last night along with a dvr camera and dab+ tuner. *eagerly waiting for it to arrive* :D

Got around to fitting it the other day, not much progress otherwise, too busy helping out on the farm.
One thing I have to rant about though is that the previous person that replaced the factory had unit really butchered the wiring >.<
