PEDDERS (the brand, not the service centre)

Hi All,

Last week at the abenteuer und allrad messe I met some australian bloke from a company called: pedders. It seems they are quite big over there and they are trying to get into the european market it seems. Now, the guy was very helpfull in finding longer than stock shocks for my P38 with arnott's. For the rear he had a LT (long travel) shock, 40mm with foam cell) but for the front he had to dig around. Apparently these are shock normally mounted on a landcruiser :)

Now, my question to you guys is: how are those pedders shocks in terms of quality? I have been looking over the terrafirma adjustables for quite some time but I can't shake the feeling that they are not up to the job of traveling over corrugated roads for prolonged periods of time. The larger bore of the pedders shocks at 40mm would suggest to me a much larger oil capacity and surface area for cooling under such circumstances.

On a normal car I have had no probs with Pedders, they have been a known name here. It disturbs me to hear of the expansion thing you mention. That suggests to me that they are going the way of all the big names that used to be famous here, like Sidchrome. I hope that I'm wrong.

Probably comparable to terriblefirma shocks. Not commonly used here on cars that go offroad. But fine for cars that never leave the bitumen

I have not been able to find any other info anywhere so I think you are probably right ;) Too bad since I am getting terribly close to mounting the new HRA lift kit and I am looking for some DECENT shocks, ones that can handle the canning stock without dying a horrible death... :(

Get the biggest koni's you can fit for the canning. Trust me

I ran Pedders on my D1 for years. Following other people, I could never understand why they wouldn't look at them.
I had the best ride which was soft and easy on my back, but still gave excellent cornering qualities, and flexibility etc.

Personally, I myself couldn't recommend them highly enough,,, but it seems I'll probably be the only one thinking that way [bighmmm]

X2 for the Koni shocks. They should be relatively cheap over your way - well probably cheaper than here!

If I could get koni's I'd take them. The KONI raid's were my first choice. You can get them for the defender but not the P38.

They are a dutch company, and coincidentally, so am I :) but so far they have either not responded or be quite arrogant on my inquiries. Their latest response was: if there is a market, we've made it. Else it's simply not there. end of story.

I also inquired about a list of available koni RAID's includiing a chart with extended and compressed length but they simply ignored me. So, long travel koni raid's are not going to happen unless someone can provide me with a detailed list of available shocks (and data) and I can figure something out myself. More then willing to do so but alas... :(

i've got pedders in my vy ute, came with the car. never had an issue with them

I had pedders shocks ( rebadged Gabriel ) in my rrc and they lasted about 18 months , put OME in and they were still good after 10 years.

I had standard length pedders on the p38 when I bought it - very well valved, and they look a suitable size except for the eye, which was incredibly undersized.

I'm not sure on the long term sorry, dad's got them now.

The terra firma on the other hand isn't overly got on quality. Mine have leaked after 3 years.
