missing license plate

Hi All,
very long shot. Are there any members on here in Apollo Bay, Victoria? i think i dropped my licence plate in a big puddle i tore through on the waterfront just out of town. Im hoping it may have been spotted, and save me the $150 its going to cost to replace.

On the Useless Loop road I tend to often find numberplates along with other various trailer/caravan parts on the road.
I usually stop and pick them up and put them in a prominent place on the side of the road so that hopefully the poor sod that has lost it can pick it up on his/her way out.
If they have lost it on the way out then that is unfortunate.

The rear plate fell off our work ute some time back.
Some kind soul took it to VicRoads and they decided to ......contact the company that the vehicle was registered to ? No, they cancelled the registration !!!!
Wasn't spotted until about 4 months after rego was due (someone at work wondered why rego renewal paperwork wasn't received).

So, what next ? Do you argue with VicRoads and get charged with driving an unregistered vehicle ? No the company had to get a roadworthy and a new rego !!

The guy that drives the ute checks the plates are still there every working day now.......


Not sure why a replacement plate would cost $150 though
