Hey fellas!

So a few days ago I noticed that my car started to leak oil on the ground in my car park, I had a mechanic friend (not a RR specialist) have a look at it and from what his said its leaking from the rear main seal between the motor and
gearbox. I am PRAYING something major does not have to be removed in order to fix this problem as from a quote I was given was 5k

has anyone had any same or similar issues you could please share with me? your time is much appreciated

thank you!!

Before worrying toooo much, I'm guessing it is a diesel 2.7 or 3.0? If so it will be worthwhile to check that the oil cooler is not leaking and filling up the valley , and spilling over to run down the back of the bellhousing.

Our 2007 had a bad leak recently, the valley was full of oil and running down the belhousing and pooling in the belly plates. It happened all of a sudden and turned out to be the oil filter seal. Changed the filter and topped up the oil, no more problems. It made a real mess and took ages to clean up. Apparently this is a common problem with after market filters.

Justin, that’s happening on a mates 3.0td wasn’t sure if it was the oil filter seal.. is the oil cooler fed from the top too?.. is it an easy fix?
Cheers

The seal is the one on the filter cap, not a housing seal.

Thanks Graeme. Definitely worth a look.
Was a bit intrigued about the out cooler on top of the engine too.. but if the filter is..? I’ll assume that’s just the feed line.
Just heard that Justin is my mates mechanic anyway (small world) so I guess he’ll sort it out if he makes it back to Tassie!
Cheers, Rob.

The oil cooler/filter housing is mounted on the block, fed directly with both oil and coolant. The filter element is under a cap fitted with an o-ring.
