A lot of us are not into putting shiny bling all over our Landys, there doesn't seem to be much point. My old 110 ute is functional and set up for off road touring, I try to keep it in good order and that's about it.

A couple of years ago, I bought a very modified TD5 90. All tricked up with loads of chequer plate, an auto transmission and performance upgrades, and believe it or not, a 2" lowering kit on it (working on getting this back up in the air). This one is my daily drive and doesn't do a lot of off-roading, more incidental stuff rather than planned trips.

Anywho, when I got it, a lot of the plastic bits attached to the dash were crumbling. Every time you unscrewed the dash binnacle for something, another bit would break off. This year I fitted the Raptor instrument cluster and dash frame. All good, looks great, no too blingy.

Just recently, I decided it was time to sort out the heater vents on the top of the dash. They had both broken close to the RHS mounting point and would constantly vibrate and drive me nuts. I thought of new plastic ones, but they would probably fail in time too, so I bit the bullet and decided to buy some of the flash looking billet aluminium ones for the UK. They would fit the look of my Black 90.

Well, buyer beware! The site I got them from that does lots of sporty bits for European sports cars and Land Rovers, charged me quite a lot for what I thought was a set of two, (why would anyone buy just one?), when it turned up, it was only one. I questioned them and they told me that they are supplied like that from their supplier. Despite their website saying they are supplied in pairs, later I found at the bottom of the page, they contradict themselves and state that they are supplied singularly.

A bit of searching and I found the manufacturer, Croytec. They ensured me they only sell them to dealers in pairs, with the mounting screws included. John Croydon offered to pull me out of the proverbial and sell me just one. I spoke to him last night and he is as dumbfounded as I am that they would split the package. Obviously a money grab.

As a bit of a comparison, Croytec sell them as a complete kit for 115 pounds, the company I made the original transaction with charged me 140 pounds....for one, with no screws.

So a little lesson here. Read the product description carefully and try to find the manufacturer to buy them from, if they wont sell, find out their first tier seller. John told me these parts have been sold to the other company in the past, but most likely, they were supplied via Bearmach.

Croytec originally supplied a lot of the billet parts to Land Rover for the tarting up of the final limited edition defenders. Others were copied and cast by Land Rover to keep up with demand.

I have sent the link to the forum to John Croydon as he is interested in advertising on here. If you are in the market for this sort of gear, get it from the manufacturer, you'll get a better price and better service.

The arm and shoulder are on the mend. I'm now able to give the middle finger to the car behind.
