hi,
i'm planning on replacing my ageing rear shocks on the 110 with OME units (n44 i think, off the top of my head).
not many people here in the UK seem to have these, although they are quite readily available.

do you have any views on these shocks? my 110 is normally quite full and allready has HD rear springs.

i'm really looking at improving road holding and reducing body roll.i don't see much off-road use.

any comments/suggestions

The OME's are really popular on the pommy boards I hang around. It was interesting that a bloke on one of them only yesterday who does equipment tests for one of the mags over there rates the TJM shocks as being better, and Dobinsons as better again. He reckoned if he lived in the penal colonies, he'd use Dobinsons over the others. Pro Comp are also popular there.

Personally, for on road ride and handling, I prefer either Bilstein or Koni. Cols110, an expat Aussie in the UK fitted some Konis to his ex Camel Trophy 110 and said they really tightened up the handling, and another bloke, Ian, who was doing an Africa expedition approached Koni on my recommendation and they sponsored him with their 'Raid' shock, (Dakar type off-road racing $$$ shock) which transformed his 110.

I've had OME shockies on my Disco for about 100000 Km and they are holding up fine.

But when I replace them I am looking at one of the adjustable types like rancho. Just to give them a try as they appear to be more flexible due to variable stifness ratings.

I upgraded and have run Old man Emu shocks for about 30.000Km now and have had no trouble with them. The have stiffened up the handling on road and I now have next to no body roll. Off road it has been just as good lifting up the body of the Disco 50mm front and 60mm rear. So far i have carried full loads that’s counting a Long-range fuel cell of 130Ltrs and have had no sagging issues.
Front Shocks (N107) Springs (779).
Rear Shocks (N108) Springs (763).

I found this upgrade was necessary and should be one of the first things to look at upgrading on most 4x4 as if like me you will add lot of bits and mods to the car and all adds weight.

I've had OME in the past on my 83 Rangie and they were bloody good value at $133 a shock. They took some off-road punishment and handeled it with ease https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I used to knock them til I got a set for myself. The only thing is to **** off the poly bushes that they come with, fit rubber and you'll be fine. They are stiffer valving than the Monroe equivelents but not too stiff.

But if you can afford it, fit with the Bilteins or Konis, both expensive but well worth it. OME if you're budget is not quite that generous.

Personally after eight years, 3 Disco's, 1 Defender, I would recommend "Tough Dogs" to anyone. Used them in the rear end for stability when towing.

am i right in thinking that the koni 'heavy raid' have adjustable damping?
i've also heard that bilstiens are slightly firmer than the OME's, is this correct?

any views on bilstien vs koni, and, which particular koni as there seem to be a couple each with similar names!

Have used OME's, KONI's and TJM XJS (once) shocks and all have been more than acceptable in their performance, only issues I ever had was the breaking of a bottom cross pin on one koni.

For the money it's hard to go past the OME's they are available just about everywhere and the price compared to the performance is great.

KONI's are brilliant, but I dont think there twice or more as good as the OME's as the price would indicate.

Most of the winch challenge boys are running OME. I used to on my 90. Great shocks and springs and have fitted them to my 90 over here in Aus. as i was so plased with the ones on my 90 in the uk
