OK what the major advantage of the Mandrell bend in a 3" exhaust, i'm going to 3" soon so is the extra cost worth it.
At the moment i have a good deal getting a 3" my only drama is distance, and money right at this time, as i'm doing other mods as well that are becoming a major bloody pain in the bum  .

the theory is that there is minimal loss of cross sectional area, ie. it doesn't get squished as much as a standard bend made by a standard tube bender.
Whether there is any loss of performance in a 2.5l turbo diesel with a standard bend vs a mandrel bend type exhaust, well, it's open to debate, although I doubt there would be any noticeable difference in performance 'tween the two.
If it was for an STi Imprezza, or a Nissan GTR, mandrel bend all the way, 'cause it's fully sick, eh ! (and they are putting out enough neddies for the difference to be seen, at least on a dyno)

In your case , Its not worth it
Mandrell bends flow better than press bends (about 10%), and in a HIPO car can be significant, particularly if you have a tight underbody with several bends.
But for a Land Rover with few bends anyway, and I assume a diesel with less than 150KW, AND a turbo which introduces backpressure anyway, this is definitely overkill and not worth it at any extra price.

Without gettig under, I dont think the TD5 exhaust gets compressed in the bends, so if you go up to 3" and dont mandrell bend it, then there isn't really much point in changing.
I understand that full 3" systems from the turbo back have been tested and the results are positive. Better spool up time and significantly lower EGTs being the main benefits. Good for those that are pushing out more power.

I looked at the bend in my TD5 and yes the bend is a manufactured bend with no decrease in size mid bend, unlike most after market exhaust systems that have been bent in a bending machine that decreases the diameter of the pipe.
OK thats answered my question thanks guys.
