Bioluminescent bloom, known as Sea sparkle is becoming more common on Aussie beaches

I've only seen this once in Port Phillip bay one night i caught a fish and blue sparkely droplets dripped from it back into the water, I didn't know at the time what it was, it was pretty freaky at the time. This was year before the Simpsons was ever aired, so I couldn't blame Homer Simpson.
I seems to occur a lot more these days on ocean surf beaches

I had a wondrous experience with this in Port Stevens.
Crossing the water at night in an oyster punt.
The glowing wake was surpassed by the glowing sparkling silhouette of dolphins playing at our bow.
Something that just left me mesmerised.

In my fishing days , I have seen the water like that as far as the eye can see, every fish , every swell , the glow that would come from the prop wash behind the boat made you think someone was under the boat with a searchlight. It was quiet common which made me think it was more related to the phase of the moon than anything else , but I was never serious enough to see if it was or not.

Had many beautiful experiences in my sailing days. Dolphins were amazing, often made me think of torpedoes. The wake was always good. the wash from the outboard was fun, would leave the painter tied to the big boat and try floor the outboard in reverse. Would make the tender and big boat be surrounded in it. Going to the head at night, if there were no other light on you could see the bioluminescence circulating the bowl as you flushed. (Obviously they were not fresh water heads)
One night was really spooky, for seemingly no reason at all there were just regular 'explosions' about basket ball size randomly happening around the boat.

Spot on Ean, I have seen that often in the Gulf country around Borroloola and Burketown way. Apparently it's a bacteria in the water. Truly breathtaking.
