Hi all, am poking around under my recently acquired 300 Tdi trying to figure out why the reverse light doesn't work and discovered this sensor(?) just sitting there with wires cut solid blue and solid black. It's located at the gearbox end of the front driveshaft bolted to the right hand chassis rail.

Anyone have any ideas?

Also how can you tell the difference between an LT77 and R380 gearbox? Am pretty sure this is an R380 (1996) I have the s/n written down somewhere. I am unable to see the reversing light switch, assuming it has one, I guess it is left hand side toward the top of the casing, is this correct?

Aftermarket cruise control pickup coil.

R380 gear knob has reverse shift far right and down, LT77 has reverse far left and up.

Arrrr, yes that makes sense, I pulled the rest of it out a couple of weeks ago. Hardly goes fast enough to warrant a cruise control! Thanks bee utey

And 300tdi wasn't bolted to the lt77.

and 96 definitely makes it an R380.

Continuing my investigation as to why the reveres light doesn't work I found this plug just hanging next to the sedimentor. What should this be connected to? No obvious mate for it. Notice also there is a film of diesel over everything. Filled the tank (which apparently has recently been replaced) but there are no obvious locations where this is emanating from. 125279
