Poor bloody cyclone.

It has no idea what it's in for when it meets BB.

Remember there are two approaches that can be taken during a cyclone / hurricane / tornado / or other wind related weather thingy.

1. The Australian Way. Find cover. Wait til it's over. Hope for the best. This is a.k.a. 'The Sensible Way'

2. The American Way. Chase it in trucks. Stand in its path taking pictures so that people reading their emails all around the world can be briefly entertained; at risk of your life. This is a.k.a. 'The It doesn't really matter he was only American Way'.

I'd suggest the former.

This will be an interesting one, all the computer models have it coming down the west coast during the first half of next week. 8O

If it goes inland at Karratha/Onslow it should pop off the coast again near Carnarvon. I reckon this one will cause a lot of problems over a wide area.

I'm currently on Barrow Island and we have just shut the field in for the cyclone. The updated predicted course is now straight over the top of us. Thankfully it is tipped to be only a Cat 3 but with a fair amount of rain. Will see what develops in the next 24 hrs.

This is the US navy's last predicted pathway

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2006/01/20.jpg

Will run along the coast and give us some rain and one hell of a blowing

this is the local prediction

Name: Daryl
Severity Category: 2
Situation At: 2PM WST Friday 20 January 2006
Warning Area: Broome to Fortescue, extending inland as shown
Watch Area: Fortescue to Exmouth, extending inland as shown
Location: 18.1S 120.5E
Recent Movement: SW at 15 km/h
Remarks: Gales with gusts to 110 kilometres an hour are possible in coastal areas between Broome and Wallal during Friday afternoon extending south to Port Hedland overnight and to Fortescue during Saturday as Daryl moves to the southwest.

Residents along the Pilbara coast are warned of the potential risk of destructive winds on Saturday as the cyclone approaches the coast.

Residents of Port Hedland are specifically warned of the potential of a dangerous storm tide as the cyclone centre nears the coast. Tides are likely to rise significantly above the normal high tide mark with damaging waves and dangerous flooding.

The State Emergency Service advises of the following alerts:
YELLOW ALERT: People in coastal communities between Pardoo and Whim Creek, including Pardoo, Port Hedland, South Hedland and Whim Creek, should commence action in preparation for the cyclone's arrival.
BLUE ALERT: People in remaining coastal communities between Broome and Dampier, including Broome, Bidyadanga, Sandfire, Wallal, Roebourne, Wickham, Point Samson, Karratha and Dampier should start taking precautions.
People in coastal communities between Cape Leveque and Coral Bay and in the inland Pilbara should listen for the next advice.

Closed the shop just after 3pm when a yellow alert was given, may not be able to open back up tomorrow right now, will depend on how long it takes to pass over.

our port is expecting storm surge flooding, but that wont reach into me.

Will drop in now and then while I have the net still to keep you all updated.

Geez, Bugga you have missed it and sent it down here. We had about an 1 1/2" about 15-30. It is torrential rain here at the moment for the last 45 minutes and I would gues about 2"-3" in that time and still coming down hard. Think I may need a boat, have not seen rain like this here since Cyclone Bobby.

Have not seen rain here like that in a few years. Moved rocks the size of rockmelons onto the roads not to mention guide post and logs. What a mess around town this morning debris on all the roads.

Best thing about having rain in Hedland is the lack of hills, cause when it does rain we have no risk of wash outs.

sorry one hill, man made one called Redbank, its so the cars can drive over the rail line, biggest bump around town.

BUT

Flash flooding on the highway is normal
Road closurers that last for weeks is not unheard of
having to fly in and out food and water is also a problem

But havnt seen anything like that for ages

So with 3 months of cyclone season to go maybe this was our warning.
